Urchins vs Welling

Seeing as the rest of you must be in a bar somewhere celebrating a great game, I thought I'd post a couple of thoughts:

The first half was strange, we seemed subdued and almost in awe of Welling, who to their credit peppered the goal with headers and shots which were ably kept out by our defenders and keeper. Welling seemed to then take the attitude that they'd win at a canter and after they scored, seemed to resort to pretty blatant time wasting.

Second half and all of a sudden we were alive, Janners made some fantastic runs, Kris Lee won headers, the defense actually defended away from our penalty area and we pushed Welling back on their heels. Janney scores and the pressure built on the Welling goal.....or at least it should have....

Three great chances were missed, Kris Lee over ran a ball attempting to beat the keeper, Parker, miscontrolled a good chance and Ainsley was very unlucky at the end with a shot that just missed the far corner.

An excellent afternoons entertainment, but I couldn't help but feel that with a bit more purpose early on we could and should have won the game.

Stars were the back four, Jamie and Janners, Tommo played well and Kris Lee made his mark. Only complaint from me and I stress, it is my opinion only, is that Simon parker doesn't seem to have quite worked a good partnership with Kris, he's often in the wrong place for knock ons from headers and I just cant see him scoring many goals for us, whereas Ainsley is threatening as soon as he hits the turf.

A minor complaint, all in all a fantastic second half performance against a useful team. Bring on the replay, which sadly I will miss as I'm on leave.

Last word, the Eastside were fantastic today.

My first game ive seen since the end of the Ryman League 03/04 season losing away to canvey!!

i must say i was attracted back due to a F.A Cup appearance, and i first thought, oh no.. no again. we go down to a goal, wow WHO could have seen that? I sure didn't! Me and my friends thought, was this worth £6??

second half, we emerged ourselves with the eastside once again to find us SINGING away enjoying the non-league banter! The goal was the turning point the reason we were attracted to come to almost every game of the 03/04 season.

The same faces remain at the bridge, and can see myself coming back serveral times this season

See you soon EASTSIDE
