Slatter

Can somebody tell me why fans on this site keep recently knocking Danny Slatter, they are perhaps either blinkered or watch only certain aspects of the game.

When you have a midfield with 5 in the players have different rolls, Slatters being the holding midfielder as if you look back when we for an instance have a corner or free kick he is one of the last 2 players protecting the defence, allowing the defence and attacking midfielders to go up for corners ect, of which he has been doing a good job especially as other players in the side do not put thereselves about or put there foot in as much as Danny ie Quinn!! what does he actually give the side? also As we all know from last season Slatters best posistion is wide right

why are we not using him in this position? Last season he won several man of the match awards in this position why the change? Moore should definately play along side charlie up front as he is wasted also in midfield!! Well done Danny today

i think you might have shot a few people up the A----!!! Fleet forever

Don't think too many have been knocking Danny other than saying he doesn't look too happy in the role he has been asked to play. If we were playing 4:4:2 I should think it would be between Slatts and Anderson for the wide right spot and Slatts would be favourite, in the 3:5:2 formation Slatts sometimes gets bypassed a bit player in the middle, good to see he got the goal today.

I was pleased that Coleman played today and by all accounts played very well. I thought that Liam was going to leave Luke in midfield until either Debolla or Long were fit and the only way Coleman could get a game would be at Slatts expense but instead it was Sodge who missed out. Todays result says that that was a good decision.

We've all got our own opinions mate, that's football I guess. I don't mind admitting that I've been one of Danny's critics this season so far as I don't think he's played at all well. However, I'm over the moon he's scored today and hope this will give him the confidence to play as well as we know he can. Well done Danny!

I partially agree with you, I feel Danny is one of the key players with the Fleet as is Quinn. Quinn is not flash, and being so, is hardly noticed, that like others in the team do a grand job with his distribution, he reads the game quiet well. Overall I think the current team are great. A little more gelling and they will be consistant in match winning.

With injuries, players have to be utilised as and where necessary. Positional play has to be sacrificed from time to time.

Totally agree Bill.

We have a lot of quality players (or soon to be) vying for midfield places, with De Bolla, Keeling and Long all due back. I suppose they are lucky in that there are 5 spots for them all to fill as opposed to the customary 4.

As we all know, it is a long and tiring season, no player will or can be expected to play 40 odd league games and a few cup matches.

The only concern would bew if Charlie were to get injured again. Ekoku could of course make his mark and I guess De Bolla is used to playing as a forward, so LD still would have plenty of options.

Let us all bask in the 6th spot.

We won't win every game from now on, and occaisionally we will play poorly as we did last Tuesday. But at least we know that was a one off, and can put it behind us, unlike last year.

I don't see why a goal alone would make up people's minds about whether they'd like to see Slatts play in a full-strength Fleet team. My preference would still be for Coleman ahead of him if/when De Bolla returns to the starting line-up. Also, I still feel the jury is out as to what position Slatts prefers to play in.

That said, a well-taken goal by Danny today and an improved performance.

As for Quinn, his role is clearly to break up play, which he does well. At times, his passing can lack range, with the longer passes often not finding their targets, but it's still clear why he's in the team. The fact is, there are no other players in the squad who fulfil the same role as Quinn does.

i think quinn is the man to hold in midfield not slatter, however with a 3 man midfield we should be strong defensively but going forward i think quinn should sit and both slatter and coleman get forward, coleman does this naturally and willingly and if there is a fitter player i aint seen him and slatter should do the same, both safe in the knowledge the quinn is holding, wot the 3 cannot do is get too close to each other and be in a straight line when we got the ball.

We have an abundance of quality in midfield this year and it must be hard for the manager to formulate this area from week to week. I think that Slatts gets lost on the wing and struggles to get into the game which he needs to do.

Since Mark De Bollas injury he has taken a centre park role and he has improved here as I believe that he is at his best when running direct at defenders, he's a brave guy who covers a lot of ground, both attacking and defending, breaking down opposition attacks.

At the end of the day, Quinnies in and perm 3 fom 4 or 4 from 5, it doesn't matter that much it will be an effective unit, great for the manager,(but probably a happy headache for him) great for the team, great for the supporters.
