Burton Match

Fleet boys

Recommended Posts

Great result today! After watching the Stafford game on Tuesday and then going to Croatia for the England game, the week has thankfully ended on a high note. Up to 6th and sitting nicely just outside the play-off places and we still have DeBolla, Keeling, Ross and Stacy Long to come back from their injuries.

Very tense but great match up there today!

The goal was a real team goal, 7 or 8 1 touch passes and as mentioned a great back heel by Coleman to set Slatts free, superb finish too.

Charlie had a couple of chances, shame he couldnt put one away, but he was unlucky to see his shot after a counter-attack come rocketing back off the post.

Burton pushed forward after our goal, but we had men behind the ball and they had 1 maybe 2 clear cut opportunities.

Liam Coleman was MOM for me, work rate was again top class, and creativity was impressive too.

To be honest I think the sooner we get Ross back the better. He was on the pitch at half time knocking it about, but I understand he's missed 2 or 3 training sessions this week so was likely he watch unfit to play. Hawkins looked a little shakey today, and let Clare (I think) through once or twice, and he doesnt look comfortable on the ball, losing possesion on a number of occasions by 'shoveling' it.

We took around 60 up today who witnessed a performance 10 times better than Tuesday thank god! A well deserved 3 pts!

I agree, Sleepy!!! Liam Coleman was my MOM, closely followed by Slatts, fantastic goal. We go into woking game on a high note, we can win against the highly rated team, without some of the key players. We're in a good position, same points as Exeter who lie in 5th.

let's keep it going Fleet Boys!!!!

In the words of Meatloaf "You took the words right out of my mouth"...

It was good to see that the team we had been watching for the previous 14 games of the season prior to Tuesday night turn up today and well done to the lads for puting that defeat behind them. With the performance of the defence today who were all "immense" it is difficult to see how you can drop anyone to bring in Ross. Quite a contradiction to my comments on the forum over the past week but before today Ross had missed 6 games for us in his time since joining us 14 months ago. In that time we had lost three drawn two and won one conceaded 13 and scored 6 so it is easy to say we are better with him than without him.

Although I thought it a good performance had Keeling been in the team we could really have done some damage. The right back looked weak and as Sacha is not the fastest wingback in the world it was difficult to penetrate. Liam tries to encourage him forward but he clearly doesn't want to do it and neither does Rickets.

Like a miniature version of Argentina's 24-pass goal against Serbia and Montenegro in the World Cup - great stuff.

There was one Jon Shaw effort that Cronin tipped away excellently to his left, but he had few difficult saves to make apart from that.

A strange game, in which we only needed to play nice intricate passing football for a 10-minute spell in the second half, having started the half with a worryingly high number of aimless punts upfield, to do enough to pick up the three points. In a way, though, I suppose that's a good thing.

I saw that too.

From where I was standing, right inline with it, it looked like a blatent dive - I was furious such a big uproar went up!

But then I was down the other side of the ground to where it happened.

As for our penalty, I saw our players make a relatively big appeal, but our end couldnt see anything for all the bodies that were in the way so we didn't make any noise about it... Maybe that had something to do with the decision making.

Makes me think about the '83% of penalties at Old Trafford went to Man U' advert... !

Lord Chas and Greenie both thought that Hawkins challenge was a stonewall penalty.

You won't find anyone who wears his Fleet heart more on his sleeve than Chas so if he reckons Burton should have had a penalty thats good enough for me. Luckily the ref disagreed so its immaterial we have the three points and we are keeping them.

In my defence I was relatively well positioned in an elevated position on the half way line. I think Greenie summed it up perfectly when he said that the referee - regarded by Burton fans in the same way that we would regard Mr Deadman for his historial performances - didn't award the penalty as he had not given us a penalty for blatant handball in the first half. How many times have you seen referees do that? In their misguided attempts to be even handed they work on the premise that two wrongs do make it right.

Given that the shot was hit with such ferocity, how could their defender have possibly got his arm out of the way?

It was Greenie who referred to Derbyshire - not me. One of the local press boys nudged me to remind Greenie he was in Staffordshire. Sorry to correct you.

Sorry, i should have made it more clear, i meant it was Greenie who said Derbyshire.
I would never believe you would make such a mistake!
