"I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough water! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

You Fleet boys haven't got your computer set up correctly or should I say keyboard!! go back into settings and set your keyboard to ENGLISH, theres a good chap and then if your head is in the right gear when your brain (should you have one) tells your fingers what keys to tap we may all then be able to understand what you are trying to say to us.

Vic, you and I are of the older generation where the gift of the English language was there for the taking, although we had to do a bit of work for it. We share the language of Shakespear, Milton and Rupert Brooke. Think of Churchill. Can you imagine the power of his oratory had he come onto the BBC to announce, "In dis conflict man, da field an all that- well we owed you nuffink, so many geezers, how much? how many? Innit."

The most entertaining threads on this and other message boards always come from a well constructed argument, clearly written and presented in easily understood formal English. Even John Crawshaw, Rotten Johnny and George Manning have always constructed their arguments (flawed, it has to be said) in Queen's English.

I guess it is all a fad that we must have gone through ourselves. Remeber beatniks? Daddy-o? Swinging? Cool?

I have no problem with unconventional English, but it must do the job, i.e. convey meaning to its intended audience. But perhaps I'm just an old-fashioned fart.

But at least I can write prose that other people want to read!

Define success.

(BTW - capital I for the first person singular and always a full stop at the end of something worth saying.)

(Thinks... perhaps the grammar was half right.)

Younggravesendian. Canvey had their fair share of ridiculous messages from people on our board at the end of last season and of course the summer. Good to see new registered supporters on our site, but theres no need to go through the whole SUCCESS thing again with Canvey. They have had success, so have we, end of story.
