we were superb first half and a different team the second half.

im not making excuses but the ref was apporling and so were the linesmen.in the first 5 min of second half we could of scored 2 and when we hit the crossbar the players gave up!after that northwood went on a rampage and the rest is history. i dont like slagging players off but gary mccan made some major mistakes today.ryan williams got the goal for us in the first half.

We were on the backfoot throughout the match. Took the lead, and then either played too deep or spent the rest of the half under pressure. Yes, the Ref was from another planet, but we didn't help ourselves in the first half--too many errors.

I don't know what Browne said in his half time talk, but whatever it was it helped--for about 5 minutes. If Boot's shot had gone in instead of hitting the bar, then things might have been different. Instead we were treated to an abysmal display for the last 40 minutes .

Northwood were well up for this match---they wanted it. Once again in an important match, our team seemed to think they only had to turn out to win.

For the first time this season no one applauded the team off. They didn't deserve applause, our defence was a shambles, our midfield non existant, and our attack very quiet--not that it had much service. Even Sammy made little impression.

There is still a lot of the season left, but with Browne in charge, does anyone seriously think we will be promoted? In fact , with Browne in charge, did anyone seriously think we'd be promoted?

I thought we played ok for the first 20 minutes and were quite lucky to go into the break one nil up, due to a combination of very poor finishing and good defending. Within two minutes of the second half we could have been two nil up when Boot hit the bar, but they go directly up the other end and score. After that we were absolutley dire. I thought the better side won today. It was very disappointing after the last few results, and although the ref was bad he can`t be blamed for the result today. Mcann should hold his hands up and take responsibilty for at least two of the goals. I never saw him in his first spell at the club when lots of people were really rating him, but in his second spell here I can`t say I have been overly impressed with him, he seems a bit slow for a goalkeeper. Maybe now it is time for Dom to come back into the goal. By the way talking of Goalkeepers has anyone seen that Murrey bloke we had on loan from Wolves who was useless is now their first team keeper!

How many did Steve Hale get ? New stadium? you should be looking for a new park cos thats the level Deaner & Browne will take u to!

In last thirty years if anyone had said we would lose to a village side 5-1 i would have laughed my goolies off, but you sychophants are now getting your just desserts The owners, the club, the stadium, the PR, the management, etc need a clean bill of health and a sweeping thro with a new broom, its like they are from a different planet

I have read on here a few times that it is the bad bobbly pitches that would do for us, but that could not be used as an excuse today, the pitch considering the recent conditions was in good condition. What happened to our passing game, again when under pressure we resorted to pumping the ball in the air and Boot and Sammy constantly getting caught offside was getting boring towards the end.

Yes bad day all round....

Can't beleive that 2nd half performance, but the writing was on the wall in the first half, yes Northwood were good but we were very charitable too.....late Christmas present to Northwood !!!

But what a good goal for their 3rd ! ....magic football.....

Yes I can all hear everyone shouting .....rubbish...brown out etc etc.....but now is the time to close ranks and get us going again...we are all disapointed today but one match does not make a season and on paper today we had a good starting line up.... A VERY BAD OFF DAY.....against a good team...

Well done to Northwood, but here's to Slough getting back to the way we know they can play.... up the Rebels...

I just cant believe how wrong we can be sometimes. I really thought we had a decent chance against Northwood, and a win or a draw would prove we can still go up. But now we have shown that we're nowhere near good enough to go up and, fair enough Northwood are top of the table but 1-5? give me a break

gutted and appalled

Chris--all respect to you, we all know you've got Slough's best interests at heart, but by any reckoning Browne has had more than enough time to produce the goods, if he's capeable of it.

He produces good teams, on paper. On paper, we should not have been relegated. On paper, we should have beaten Harrogate Railway. On paper, our team was good enough to win today. On the pitch, his teams don't produce consistent performances. Every good performance is offset by a poor one, the poorest ones occuring in the most important matches. Yet on paper, we should be winning. Browne just doesn't have the ability to get us promoted, even though he has, for this league, a good budget.

Yes , theres a time for getting behind the team. but there is also a time to realise that changes need to be made in the way the club is managed. One does not preclude the other, and perhaps we all need to be vocal in both, not just one.

I know there are no easy solutions re the clubs future, and if even half the rumours that do the rounds are true, no changes will be made---but again that doesn't mean that changes arn't needed, if the club is to be in any way successful.

100% right Ted. It's alright thrashing the likes of Great Wakering Rovers and Leyton Pennant but when it counts, against top teams like Hornchurch and Northwood, all the ability in the team seems to count for nothing - I don't think Browne can get the best from the team

yet, I don't think we should be letting Browne go, there'd be no point till the end of the season, because what we really need is stability as we *still* have a chance to go up but it looks like we'll be chasing the Stones all the way.... not confident we can make it anymore.... I was before today...

Ted's spot on there about Brownie getting a good team on paper . I feel we do have a good team there . I stood by the dug out for a part of the 1st half to take some photos and it's Eddie that does all the talking and shouting...but I think we all knew that anyway . Like another comment about him being here for 3.5 yrs now and we knew in that time what he's like , he'll never go . More chance of Scotland winning the world cup than he being given the boot . We did well for 20 mins today , but the 2nd half we just had no guts .

We have a great team on paper.... Bubb and Winston shouldn't be playing at this level.... but the team disappoints us when it counts. Not against Great Wakering, but against the teams like Northwood. The team plays like they don't want promotion, thats what's so disappointing.

I am doubtful about the tactics that are used. We are at our best when we attack down the wings, get to the line, and cut the ball back. This is what worked against Hampton and Canvey. We used this to some extent today (Gilkes and Spencer), until we went one up, at which point the wings were ignored.

Rather than use our strengths, we continue to use a pass it square (or even backwards), holding the ball tactic, that hopefully will lead to a final short ball inside the box. This just doesn't work at this level---it requires at least 10 good passes for this to happen, and to put it bluntly, if players could string 10 good passes together regularly, they wouldn;t be playing at this level!!. It looks good when it works, but it rarely works.

I don't blame the players, the players have been blamed for the past 4 years. The tactics are poor, the planning is missing (Hornchurch blocked our strengths--I doubt if Brownie even knows now what Hornchurches strengths are), the passion for the club on the bench is non existant (Northwood today were well up for it---they were overjoyed when they scored). The Bench usually appears to have overdosed on vallium---couldn't even manage to make a substitution today

, they were so comatose. The team takes its lead from the management. Can we really be surprised, that with such a dopey management, the team underperform?

I have to say as an unbiased neutral that having watched you for the fourth time this season last Saturday I was not at all surprised to find that you had been rolled over by Northwood (who I have seen 5 times)! While there is no doubt that you have some talent in your side, I believe in general you are a very predictable side who occasionally provides glimpses of quality. Northwood however, on a considerably lower budget that you I understand, are "consistant". They are capable of play of a high quality on their excellent surface but mainly they have a understanding of how to play the system Choulsey asks of them and a real desire to win at every opportunity, again because Tony Choules instills a proper club atmosphere among them, something that appeared sadly lacking in your clubhouse after the Marlow game judging by the "cliques" congregating on different sides of the room! As an infrequently visiting outsider I may have read that wrong but on the evidence I have seen I think you will do well to get promotion this year. Can someone also explain why you've let one of the most prolific Div 1 goalscorers in recent times return to Northwood? All the best for the rest of the season. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I surpose nothing about him being away for 6 weeks in Australia....we needed him when we had injuries, and when we lost Velli !!!

Yes yes yes all about Steve Brown....but come on you lot look at the league table , its not all over...we know what our team is capiable of.....I think we are still in with a shout, if most of you have given up.....Yes we have a lot to think about...you all said we have a good team....just ask them not to listern to the half time team talk.....LOL

But things could change if we beat Wealdstone...and continue to do well at home.....its not over till the fat man sings...

only half a season gone !!!!...... come on lads...this is not the time to press the self destruct button......

Up the Rebels......Chris Sliski

Chris,

I commend your spirit given the better insights you have into what is happening at the club (allegedly) through the rumour mill.

Looking at the performance today, well yesterday now, it was clear that we were the exact opposite of Northwood. Their clear passion for the club, clear instruction from the manager, superb man management, incisive attacking football at pace, and actually giving a toss.

The club needs changing, but we all seem happy enough to amble along and get on with it when we need to be pushing for change?

Interesting to see nobody clapped after the game yesterday. I thought that was quite lenient on the players and management. They should have been booed of that park quite frankly. Interesting to see an email from a Wealdstone fan who saw Browne and players talking in car park without a care in the world. Whilst I can understand there are more important things than football (occasionally), I don't appreciate doing a lot of work for the club to be rewarded with performances and attitudes like that. It's not even the first time, and it keeps happening.

The club needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom and needs to be run correctly.

WE NEED TO MAKE THIS CHANGE FOR THE CLUB'S FUTURE.

Spoke to Hale briefly at the Wingate match---asked him if he was off to OZ. He was, but he also made it clear that Browne was aware of the trip when he signed, and agreed it would not be a problem.

The trip should therefore have nothing to do with it.

Yes but you can't expect to walk staright back into a team that had recovered form prior to the Northwood game !

Yes Gary .. a sort out.....where do we start ??

easier said than done....

Idea's.....etc etc ...money...etc etc...people willing to take on the task for years to come(Not just for the moment) but for ever......

We are not dead or buried yet.....so lets get behind the club for the last part of the season...and get us sorted out then...

but with all playing their part....

cheers chris
