Haringey v Edgware

Recommended Posts

I had a very enjoyable evening at Coles Park this evening. Edgware played some nice football although their committee were disappointed not to score more than three goals against a team that had their 'keeper sent off after 10 minutes and another player sent off in the second half. Personally, I thought they played a very patient game and were to be credited for not getting over-excited in their search of goals - although they could perhaps have been a bit more clinical in front of goal and never really put the makeshift 'keeper (the centre half) under any real pressure.

Off the pitch things were equally good. I was invited into the boardroom before the game by Mr. Bacon and was immediately impressed by how spacious it now appears without all those old newspapers and boxes of books and programmes cluttering the place up. (I suppose Hertford & Edgware folk won't know how it looked last season but the Ruislip chaps will remember.)

Everyone was most welcoming and we had a nice long pre-match chat and a good laugh about some of the posts on this very forum. It was nice to know so many people at Haringey read this forum. Rhodes should be heartened as well as he is always encouraging as many SSML people as possible to view this site.

In the bar, the gorgeous Josie treated me like royalty and wouldn't even allow me to pay for my half time cheeseburger (which was her own recommendation, by the way), describing me as her VIP guest. I offered to treat her likewise next time she comes to Potters Bar (she also mentioned that she is really looking forward to the trip to Hertford later this season). I also learned that if Mr. Achillea, Mr. Bacon or anyone else asked her to be extra nice or put in more effort for any particular visitors that she would have a two word answer (the second of these words being "off"). Apparently, she doesn't do jumping either.

Back in the boardroom, Mr. & Mrs. Fowler kept me filled with copious amounts of tea. They certainly know how to keep a guest happy. Mr. Bacon's excellent programme made for a good read also (it was revealed that there is a programme produced by an SSML Div 1 club that is remarkably close in production to the Haringey effort; apparently, it uses the same templates). It isn't going to challenge Jane's effort at Hoddesdon Town, but then the general consensus of opinion was that there are no other programmes in the SSML that are anywhere near close to the Hoddeson effort this season.

I was asked to draw the raffle at the end of the game and the winning ticket belonged to Mr. Achillea so he was extra pleased with me and thanked me for coming. Unfortunately, he admitted that he had forgotten his woolly hat so was unable to pull it over anyone's eyes tonight.

All in all, an excellent night's entertainment and hospitality. And to think that I left home at 7pm heading for the Redbridge v East Thurrock match only to have a hasty rethink when I saw the heavy traffic queueing on the eastbound carriageway of the North Circular Road. I can't begin to think how the Haringey folk would have looked after me had they actually known I was coming; I'm sure they would have pulled out all the stops and I'm sure that Aki, John, George, Roy, Sheila & Josie would have all been pulling up trees for me!

I thought that you played with good pace but just lacked the killer punch in front of goal.

I did see all the kerfuffle outside the changing rooms as I was leaving. I wouldn't necessarily blame the home club. It's happened at Potters Bar and I know how these opportunists work (luckily we had CCTV footage of the chap at our place). I've also known it to happen at several other grounds in the past. I get the Herts County League bulletin and there was apparently a break-in at Hatfield Town this season too.

Haringey is a very risky place to try it as someone could come out of the clubhouse or round the corner from either side of the stand at any time but where there's a will, there's a way and the scum that do these things only seem to need a split second. Players should always put their belongings in a valuables bag and take it with them, regardless of whether the changing rooms are locked or not - and that should apply to any ground, not just Haringey. Better still, players shouldn't be taking anything valuable to a football match with them in the first place.

I do sympathise, though. It's not a nice thing to have happen.

Yes, He's on 13 now, but miles behind Ryno on 20!

Coops was laying injured, 20 yards from the ball when we were awarded a pen. He recovered instantly and ran the 20 yards to take the pen before Ryno could!

Busier night for you Oners, without actually having to make a real save?

Potters Bar Town - I have to admit it was a most amusing post, I wondered how long it would take Roy and Sheila Fowler to return to the Club once I had left, that just about says it all. What type of cheap and cheerful buscuits were on offer tonight out of interest.

Very concerned to hear that there was a break in tonight, was it both dressing rooms do we know or just the away one. This seems to be happening more and more these days, Biggleswade United had a theft a few weeks back and you wouldn't necessarily expect it to happen there.

It seems from your first post on this thread that you were more concerned about the buscuits being offered, sorry to hear about the theft, the changing rooms are quite a way from the stand there, we all need to be more careful as word gets around with this sort of scum.

Well, as Haringey only lost those valuable servants because of you in the first place, it was no surprise that they went back at the start of the season as soon as you were gone.

As for the biscuits, your name did come up as they were opened. I had a couple of custard creams but I noticed there were a variety of other biscuits on offer.

Yeah..nice and solid...dealt well with a few long range efforts beginging of the second half...good solid effort all round

Was v impressed with team effort. Bigg T were much more "competitive" than the previous two sides, and it was good to see us cope with that.

Interesting to read a neutral angle on the game from Potters bar. In my opinion like bigman, it was a lousy game, and we were awful. Edgware were missing players, notabally Steve Brady and Adil Salih who give us some pace and width.

Junior Lewis slottled into midfield after a reshuffle during the game, and his pro experince of holding the ball was excellent, but, Edgware dont play that paitient passing style, and it seemed to slow us right down.

We never really tested the stand in keeper, instead firing wide on more then one occasion.

Adam Wallace scored a hat trick with all thee goals inside the are, typical poachers goals, and very well taken.

I thought Haringey were not as bad as previous results suggest, but then I read they have signed 13 new players since the defeat to Heftford!

Stil, they did not offer much, but there #11 was very pacy, and I doubt they will get spanked by 9 goals again.

As for the hospitality, we were made welcome in the boardroom, I must have had at least thre cups of tea, and a couple of nice ham sarnies.

Rhodes, is achilla, a small grey haired man? he seemed to be very hospitable, shaking all our hands and making sure we all had enough to eat and drink.

Re the theft, that left a very sour taste, and it felt more like a defeat then a win travelling home with the team.

Pluses are we got 3pts, scored 3 goals (have not won a league game scoring less so far) we had players out.

Harefield lost and now we are just two points from the leaders Hertford with two games in hand.

Once translated Gurns team talk we be something like "Kick Cooper and Redford off the park".
Tough one on MOM last night. The supporters thought Leo with Pablo a close second..
Agreed but I think Lee Roberts might be mentioned aswell if he is playing, think it is only a bit of bruising, I hope so. Sorry for posting in the wrong thread Gavin.
