Heybridge Swifts v AFC Hornchurch - Latest Score

just got back from the game, thought we was unlucky to go in 2-1 down at half time, thought it was a bad decision for dale to come out for their free kick for the second goal and we didn't defend it well at all but can't really criticise dale as he has been a rock all season.Second half the sending off was a massive point in the game but in all fairness i think a red may of been the correct decision although their striker was imo going away from goal.Thought we were the better side with ten men and they just looked to get us on the break which is what they done for the killer 3rd goal, still they battled and imo i think with a bit more luck and williness to hit the ball from 20-25 yards out we may of still got something from the game.A decent urchin turn out with about 50 of us there and a nice easy journey home for me.Well done lads and unlucky

As we speak, were contemplating finding a nice country pub, to settle in to. Please ESU!

Go to the Jolly Sailor. Despite the name, the food is excellent there and it's about 5 minutes drive from the ground.

cheers for the lift fella - tell me more about this 'williness'??? :-o

strange game, felt like a capital league game as there didn't seem to be too many fans there at all. about 100ish is my guess. didn't see their goals as i forgot my glasses.

what i will say is that our 2 goals were both down to their keeper slipping over in the most hilarious fashion and that the ref was the weakest ref in the world. in fact, if he'd allowed an extra 3 seconds of the game, it would have been 4-2 to the swifts. ainsley had just slotted home in injury time, and one of their fellas taking the centre kick had a pop. fair play i reckon.

dale actually tried to back pedal and save it too, but the ref blew the whistle as it was sailing into the penalty area. he had a shocker. never seen a ref more swayed by members of the crowd shouting orders at him. can we get him for saturday please?

lastly, well done to sid although i'm blaming you for the red card as you were eager to issue the cards all evening!

well done to heybridge, on the whole of it, they actually made less mistakes and deserved the win. wonderful bar staff, nice welcome and a half decent stadium. best of luck for the rest of this cup.

i would of said 150 attendance with no more than 50 there, thing is los it is 40 miles from hornchurch and no direct train service so alot of people couldn't get there, plus it is the league cup which is a nice cup to win but when it is sandwiched in between an f.a.cup game and a trophy game then people are going to naturally give it a miss,by the way, have you got an f.a.cup game this saturday??

S'funny how your view of the game is coloured by the replica shirt you wear. I have to agree that the ref was poor, but also have to disagree with your correspondent about the two main refereeing points - I was fairly close to both and thought he got the sending-off-that-never-was absolutely right - keeper fouled him at the corner of the 18 yd area and there were at least two defenders covering the goal so the ref was right in NOT sending him off.

The sending-off-that-was would have been given in an empty stadium with no encouragement from the home fans. There were no other defenders between them and the goal and if our lad wasn't actually on a straight line for goal it was only because of the direction in which his shirt was being tugged from the moment he picked up the ball and got in front of your no4.

All in all though I thought it was a good game and with a bit more umph up front early doors, Hornchurch might well have shaded it.

Having done so well for us in the past, in a perverse way I would have liked to have seen Parker and Lee start together.

So you liked our chips then?

tbh I'm not sure - I've only been up here for about 14 years (originally from Cranham!) so still classed as an "up the roader" and not privvy to all the secrets. If I had to guess I'd say they were still cleaning the muck off the carrots they'd harvested during the day :-)

Been to Heybridge for evening games before and the bar is normally open well before 7pm.

I can remember going there straight from work on Sep 11th 2001. I couldn't believe what I saw (in the bar) on the TV. The result was irrelevant, we stuffed them 4/5/6-0, but I remember being gobsmacked (I think I right in saying) that we were the only game that was played that night (& week). Totally totally sureal, had no exposure to news all day, and go niavely to watch a footy game only to be ever so slightly distracted.
