Stafford Match

The fact that a few hundred people walked out when their 4th goal went in says it all.

I'm sorry to say this but I was shocked to see over half the ground walk out after the 4th goal. Why do it? What impression does this give to the players and other Conference teams? I know this was one of the worst performances we have witnessed, but the least us fans can do is stay behind the lads until the final whistle. I also notice this happening at games when we are winning!! This is utter shock!! at least applause the lads after the final whstle.

I think we missed one key man tonight - not Jon Keeling or Mark DeBolla, but Ross Smith! The defence tonight was poor and I think the team missed him.

I know we always say this when we get a bad result, but this time the referee was not fit to referee. He was utter sh**e! Don't deserve to be a Conference ref. Back to Grassroots for him. We cannot blame the referee, because we did have more chances than what they did.

My man of the match was Luke Moore, he played his socks off as usual. Chris Anderson played well as well when he came on.

The thing I didn't understand is why Lance Cronin came running off his line and staying stationary, just when the 3rd or 4th goal was scored, that was most disappointing.

At least their were other shock results in the Conference tonight, Burton Albion losing one nil to Forest Green Rovers, Cambridge United winning at York City 2-1, Tamworth coming out as 4-2 winners over Grays Athletic and Oxford United drawing 0-0 at Kidderminster Harriers. We stay 8th in the table, still looks a healthy position to be in!

Well, it was not our night tonight, credit to Stafford Rangers. Every team gets a shock defeat, we cannot expect good results all the time. Let us now get behind the boys away at Burton Albion and put this defeat behind us.

Gravesend til I die!!
COME ON THE FLEET!!!

Agree 100% He doesn't just commend the defence but the whole team.

I think some praise should also go to Stafford. Although we were poor tonight, if they were also poor then you could say a draw would have been a fair result but you can say nothing except that they deserved to win.

Before Scizo Gary gets in can I just remind everybody that had we been offered the first 15 games before the start of this season to have gone the way they have done we'd have taken it.

Didn't think stafford were a good team at all, but when lucks on your side!! they got a whole seasons worth of luck tonight, nothing McCarthy could have done about the first goal despite the bbc.co.uk stating how he side footed it passed the keeper almost as if it was a bad back pass (bbc w*****s) great save for their second goal but suppose thats good following up from the other forward. cant remeber the third goal (trying not to) but the fourth goal was about a week offside and they nearly had another offside goal at the end. the linesman over the dugout side had a stinker!

Defence was awful tonight, a contributary factor in all four goals. While Stafford were quite positive, they didn't really threaten on any occasion other than when they scored and we created quite a few decent chances. They did defend very well, however, always in the way with a foot in here and a body in there. It wasn't particularly pretty, but it was effective.

I hope that was a freak scoreline, as with the chances we created, we could have had four ourselves, but ultimately it was a very poor performance.

Didnt think Stafford were brilliant , but they played to their strengths, they used the big bloke up front (madjo I think it was)pretty well , he seemed to be chasing everything and put our back three under alot of pressure every time they went forward and also when we passed the ball back. Would like to have seen Coleman introduced at some time although Anderson done ok when he came on, but i think this one can be put down to just a bad day at the office and on another day we would have took our chances and won the game. Having said that we will probably now go and give Burton Albion(our bogey side!!!) a real going over on saturday, nothing would suprise me with football or this team.

Well not a very impressive performance to mark my return to Stonebridge Road.

Didn't even look remotely like the side that narrowly went down 2-1 on sky sports at Weymouth.

Time and time again the defence was caught napping and although creating chances, we weren't at the races tbh.

On the positive, I managed to avoid Harry J Allstars,

which was probably lucky for him in my current mood.

As I have a young daughter with a mental disability, I take great offence and exception to that remark Harry.
I might just pm the mods to get it (or you removed) unless it is deleted.
As for the performance, it was one of those nights where the midfield 3 played poorly, and we again resorted to bybassing them with the big hoof to Chas ans Sodje.
The defence looked cumbersome and slow, and bearing in mind we did lose to Weymuff, struggled to score against Cambridge for an hour, and looked disorganised tonight, perhaps a return to 442 with Opinel and Rickets as genuine full backs might be worth considering.
It would certainly give us a more pacy and athletic look at the back, especially against the likes of Burton and Oxford.

Indeed a bad day at the office. The first poor performance of the season and probably not the last. Full credit to Stafford, yes they had some luck with a couple of the goals and the third was offside, but they did create quite a few other chances.

We have 3 players to come back (hopefully this weekend) and we then need to get back to playing how we have done all season prior to this game.

8th after 15 games is brilliant ane WE all would have taken that at the start of the season. Good luck to Stafford who certainly look better than other teams we have played thus far.

Put this one behind us and get behind Liam and the Team. They will be upset this morning and hurting just like us.

How can you have the nerve to say "Grow up" to Darren, in the same breath as refusing to withdraw your remark to Chatham Gary? Given CG's situation, I do think an apology/ withdrawal of that one word should be done. Why include it in the 1st place though? It added nothing to your argument & simply caused offence.

As for your running feud with Darren, I've said it before & I'llsay it aain - keep it off this message board & stick to the football discussion - I'm sure everyone else would appreciate it (and that goes for Darren too).

On the football front, even last nights efforts were still rather better than much of last seasons efforts - lets not forget that.

It was the worst performance that I have seen since Boreham Wood in the trophy last season.

Defence were all over the place and although Charlie, Sodje and Moore tried their best, it simply was not meant to be last night.

We missed De Bolla on the free kicks and shots from the edge of the box.

Thought Anderson looked pretty good when he came on and Charlie got another one (off the keeper's head?) so there were positives.

I am starting to despair of Opinel though. He looks the part but being able to pass to the players in red and not just continue to lump in high balls to little blokes is kind of useful when playing this game.

Stafford were poor (apart from their keeper who was my MoM) but you can't keep punting long balls into what is arguably the biggest defence that have visited us this season.

Tu comprends Sacha?

Remarks about Schizos are bang out of order Harry.

ApolOgy accepted Harry. My reference to your being sad was related to your inclination to trawl through last seasons posts. If that upset you, I too apologise.

Last night excepted, we are playing vastly better than last year - of course my opinion has changed - why wouldn't it?

Oh, and please Harry, no more offensive pm's!

Staffords huge back four stifled our forwards.

The big kicks upfield by Lance were not helpful to our forward line who were compromised time and time again. Things only happened when Lance was throwing the ball to one of our defence to move upfield. Did anyone do their homework on the Stafford aerial prowess. Bit of a banana skin really

The preview suggested that the pitch was right for playing the ball long the ground.

Never mind, lets put this one behind us, and wish the lads well, and a rub of the green.

Looking forward to the next game

Yep....bad day at the office about sums it up....very disappointing. Think Stafford did their homework and stiffled us, allowing us no room, and with the big lads at the back they won most things in the air. No doubt Liam had a few words to say !

Yes, it was a bad performance, you didn't have to be Mourinho to spot that, but, as per Kev's post, the mass walkout ( or throwing toys out of playpen !) was bizarre !! Had we lost 8 games in a row and/or played cr*p for months, then maybe. But one bad game ??? Hmmm, surely that's when the team need your support more than ever ?

not to see people running for the exit before the end at the first duff performance !

Oh well, at least I could stretch out after they had all gone !!

Cheers,
