They've all gone to the club that cannot be mentioned. Its a much better atmosphere over Park Lane now by far.

hmmmmmmm...time will tell tomarocky...time will tell......... but this forum aint too great now is it.....used to be a place of real wit and footie expertise from the likes of canv and pabird and also the efm crew who came to park lane on a regular basis to raise money for local charities etc...

all long gone now along with me old mate jeff....

would be no club without him but then again I don't suppose you guys were around in those far orf days....got chased away the old boy did and felt that he'd had enough abuse and poor support for his efforts over 15 years.......

real shame...nice man and mr canvey forever...

Agree with much of that Unc but the new Canvey thing can (as ever) go two ways:

1. Crowds drop away as fans realise the new Canvey will take 2/3 years to get back to respectability football wise.

2. A new club with new support plus some old hands will rekindle a spirit that was unique to Canvey.

The unnecessary and unwanted are the carpers who can only remember the highs gained from Jeff’s money and the kids who only appear to understand pithy nah na nah nah debate.

Like your efforts Unc there are some good non-league football people doing all the work and we have to hope item 2 will be the winner.

See you later in the season Unc.

Whether, as individuals, we like(d) Jeff King or not is not an issue. At Park Lane there is still a great deal of respect for the man and what he did for our football club. Nobody can argue about the success he brought the club but the dilemma was always the way in which he ran things, which was not the friendly, touchy-feely style that many of us wanted. However, his method worked on the football field which is where we all thought it counted (at the time). In spite of our dramatic fall in fortune Jeff’s place in Canvey’s history will always be there and those chapters will be read, in years to come, with great admiration.

But Canvey fans are realistic and very few are looking back; only to the future. We know things are unlikely to ever reach those dizzy heights again but the vast majority of us see only half-full bottles with only the odd dissenter seeing half-empty.

What Jeff didn’t create was the passion, the humour, the enthusiasm or the fervour that always existed on the terraces. I appreciate that numbers may be down this season but, believe me, those things still exist behind the goal, in the bus shelter and in the bar after the game. I believe the same sort of thing is also true of Hornchurch. The old boys at Wingate, Ardsley and Ware must wonder what on earth is going on when really crazy away supporters turn up to disturb their peace. What Canvey are waiting for now (I guess Hornchurch already have it) is for the upturn in performances on the field, which will come as Pabird rightly predicts in his various postings.

When these two elements eventually come together, perhaps this season, perhaps next, Canvey fans will back in ecstasy. OK, probably not in the Conference and certainly not looking for football league status. We won’t really care what the other Essex teams are doing other than a passing interest in the results on a Saturday night. But we will be watching a successful team (at whatever level), in the fellowship of like-minded fans (home and visiting) and feeling we are part of it. After all, that’s what it’s all about.
