It was definitely an improved performance from us today although still plenty of things still to work on !

 

First half we seemed more like the home team but 2nd half they were stronger. Turning point was definitely the penalty miss by Clarkey, which hit the crossbar and bounced back out into the box.

Should have taken us into a 2-0 lead which would probably have been too much for them to come back from. Instead it gave them the boost they needed and they equalised.

 

Superb save from Bazza, tipping a shot over the bar in the last 5 minutes, which was followed shortly by them hitting the post. Should have been 3 points today but could easily have been another defeat in the last 5 minutes, so a point each is probably a fair result. Referee was down to the usual poor standards we have seen this season.

 

Defence still need to clear the ball upfield quicker at times, rather than playing it about in front of our own box. Passing needs to be quicker, crisper and more accurate in the final third.

 

Still we are now on an unbeaten run of 2 games, and have stopped the continuous run of 5 consecutive defeats. Onwards and upwards !

Sorry - yes it was 1-1. The rest was copied & pasted from the BBC website so that bit was right at the time. See Southport player was booked at 90 mins but we still lost out on bookings despite them committing most of the fouls.

Sorry rob, but i completly disagree, i look on it as two points lost. Southport and teams like them are the teams we really need to be taking three points off. Very frustrating result.

From an attacking point of view, I thought that it was one of our best performances of the season. Hakim was superb, Davis had a pretty good game and I always think that we look better when Simon Martin plays. Having said that, one reason we looked good was because Southport were pretty poor.

 

I think that the missed penalty definately cost us the game. Also, It was pretty scary watching us hang on at the end of the match and Southport should have won the game in the last few minutes.
