The Conference results last evening.

Forest Green Grass Rovers got the thrashing we all know that they deserve as they lost 5-1 at home to Oxford United in front of a crowd 3,021 (that'll be 3,000 Oxford fans then). Oxford were only 2-1 up with seven minutes to go. As I write in the early hours of Saturday morning, deep in the underground vaults in Nailsworth plans are being thought up for Forest Greens escape. I've written to Mr Peake to tell him that I had free use of my coke bottle lid at the Wessex the other night so there is hope yet.

Meanwhile Satenage drew 2-2 away at "Kick and Rush-den" & Diamonds, no doubt the away fans were again charge diamonds to gain entry to the ground as the home fans would have paid £3 less to get in then the away fans pay. Wayne Hatswell managing to get on the score for both teams there.

Woking drew in a bore draw with Nigal Cloughs Burton Albion, while Darren Bernard saw red as Shots lost 1-0 away to Jorvik City.

We remain tenth and provided results go our way today, Kidderminster and Halifax deny Grays and Exeter victories respectively then we could move up to sixth. But only if we win of course.

Onwards and upwards. Despite our unfortunate loss against Weymouth which Garry Hill duly acknowledged, I thought, we were maybe slightly jaded as were Dagenham at Stafford the day before which I put down to the great match on Saturday.

I am sure that if we had been fresh, we would have been a touch sharper and Weymouth would have been buried. Having said that you had to be proud of the boys the way they took the game to Weymouth and were only beaten by 2 great moments in the game where we had the majority share.

6 points out of 6 or even 4 pointa and we are back in business, 2 points or less and the alternative fleet fans come out of the closet and start hanging us out to dry with the I told you so's. Its going to be that sort of league and we are probably going to drift in and out all season with hopefully the momentum to make the top 5, anywhere in the top 8 or 10 for me would be great.

What was disturbing was the effect on the team when Mark De Bolla went off injured, a great fan of LD but I wasnt convinced at the moment with young Luke in midfield, despite a wonderful pass to Onome Sodge, he is a bit lightweight in midfield when competing for the ball. He is currently better at the moment utilising his pace and putting the s**t up defenders making serious time and space for Charlie Mac.

Great goal Charlie by the way!!

Weymouth's two late goals to defeat St. Albans on the same day didn't make them jaded then?

Daish's hand was a little forced, although he could have tried playing Purcell out of position in the centre instead. Ultimately, the absence of Coleman from the bench proved significant, as he would have been a far more suitable replacement.

Debolla has been the main man in nidfield so far and we were going to miss him whoever played there.

Slatts still doesn't seem happy in the 5 man midfield to me, I think we would get more from him wide right in a 4:4:2.

With Debolla and Long both injured it is not east to see who will provide the creativity or goal threat from midfield.

To me though, he doesn't really seem a natural winger either. Hopefully Anderson will turn out to be good enough to take this role if a long-term switch to 4-4-2 is made.

With the injuries Anderson or Purcell might get an outing today, without any reserve team matches it is hard to know which squad players are knocking on the door.

I hope Luke is back up front and not dropped into midfield again, not only does he not seem so happy there but it is a bit of a slap in the face for the specialist midfielders.

No I don't think so. I cannot believe for one minute that the Weymouth V St Albans game had anywhere near the intensity of the Fleet v Dagenham encounter. If you would like me to estimate a figure, they were relatively 10 to 15% fresher mentally and physically and we were still the better team on the night as I have already told you. (in my opinion of course.)

Agreed it was a general observation from me, I have since day one, always had faith in LD and I am happy with his interpretation during games.

I think that currently Luke may be his achilles heel, the good news is that he gets stronger and better every week, the heel will soon be fixed!

Shows why I am not a manager. Well done Liam, three key players out and business as usual.

Interesting Comment from John Still Sunday October 8th 2006

"We had the game won after half an hour and I think we tired midway through the second half as we had a tough game at Stafford Rangers last Tuesday that took a lot out of the squad"

They still won 5-0 mind!

For me it was the combination of Fleet away, very high tempo game, the travelling and the Stafford match that jaded his team, much the same scenario for the fleet at Weymouth who to be fair had a lot more defending to do against Dagenham, we then travelled to Weymouth, played well only missing that sparkle and sharpness that brings goals.

Interesting comment from Liam Daish Sunday October 8th 2006.

"Luke Moore was a revelation for us in midfield. He's got a good footballing brain and stacks of energy. I love him to bits. I would always have him around me. He's different class, always wants to learn and does so much for the team"

I hope that the heel is fixed asap.
