Game on sky

Recommended Posts

I agree, such biased commentry!

The pre-match build up aswell! It was almost as if they thought Gravesend were only there to make up the numbers. Because it was ALL about Weymouth!

And who the hell is "Sodjay"?

and who are "Gravesend and North......fleet" ?

Beats me!

In the latter part of the game, they did somewhat grudgingly accept we deserved something from the game and at least Nigel Clough was pretty fair with his views when given the chance.

Those 2 chances that Sodje missed at 1-1 cost us. The frustrating thing was that Lance didnt have a save to make other than seeing the 2 goals go in (ok, you can just about count Smiths chip in the second half, but nothing else and barely a shot off target either). I know we didnt test their keeper much either, but Luke's ball across the box to Sodje (his second chance) was pass of the match for me, and we put some decent passing moves together particularly in the second half, but were just lacking that final cutting edge.

Unfortunately, Sasha rather committed himself on their secod goal and, taking nothing away from the quick break, the cove wasnt available. We really must have someone playing deeper on the left hand side if Sasha ventures forward.

I thought if either side deserved to win it was us. They know that was a game they could have lost. No Keeling costs us width & as has been pointed out, Sasha's raids down the left leave us very vulnerable to the kind of counter that produced what turned out to be the winner.

Actually, I was expecting the whole Sky thing to be at least 3 times more biased towards Weymouth than it was. They did say quite a few positive things about our record this season & mentioned what an effective young ream Liam has assembled on a budget which was cut in the summer. In fact I blame Cloughie for the defeat. When he said, "If anyone's going to get a 2nd here, it's Gravesend, I'd not finished my reply containing the words "Thanks ... kiss ... death ... northern ... expletive" when thet got their winner totally against the run of play.

Still. I reckon their budget is at least twice, probably nearer three times ours. And compare that performance with how last season's team would have fared: we'd have been brave but never really in it. Tonight we were always competing. Still looking good.

No Keeling and missing De Bolla after 20 minutes, I was wondering how we were going to do with out them.

Weymouth have arrogant moron fans who should be put down at the next available opportunity, did they not see how when we scored we celebrated our goal, yet when they scored they turned to us to gloat. Thats the sort of club they are, everything connected with them is bad news, I hate them more than I hate Grays, Spurs of even the Arsenal.

I haven't yet seen the footage but I can imagine how Rob Macafrey would be waxing lyrical over them, it's just not justice that people like that can throw a load of money win an ever more tinpot league than this one and the ugliest man on tv is have fits over them.

Very weird watching the Fleet on the tele.

I thought that we played pretty well but were beaten by two good goals.

Debolla going off was a downer. As much as I think that Luke Moore has come on this season, he's not really a midfielder. However, his ball to Sodje in the first half was cracking.

Sodje needs to work on his finishing.

Thought we deserved a point from the game but that's the way it goes sometimes.

We'll beat them at home though.

Bring on Cambridge.

I thought we were the better team last night and were unlucky to lose. At least it was a decent performance for the TV masses. And, didn't you just know what would happen after Clough said if anyone's going to score it's going to be Gravesend !!

Nice also to try & spot a few familiar faces in the crowd too. I saw Sir Dave Holden a couple of times & the lad who has We 8 The Gills on the back of his shirt !!

Cheers,

I agree it did seem a little odd watching the 'Fleet on TV.

Nevertheless I thought the team gave a very good account of themselves and probably deserved at least a point from the game. Worryingly it looks like DeBolla could be out for sometime, lets hope not?

Losing 2-1 was particularly disapointing, if Sodje had only taken the chances that he had in the first half, the game could have been over by half-time. Although in fairness to him the first chance came after only a few seconds of him coming onto the pitch and the other brought a good save from their 'keeper. Excellent finish by MacDonald, thought the commentators were particularly complimentary about Charlie.

The Weymouth equaliser was something special, one of those that could have ended up in the car park or the back of the net. Just our luck that it ended up in the net. I have to say though that I feel it could have and should have been prevented. The ball only reached the scorer as a result of two Fleet players going for the same ball and neither getting sufficient on the ball to get it away. If he isn't already, Daish needs to be aware that on too many occasions the 'Fleets defence are guilty of two players going for the same ball and getting in each others way, it happened on numerous occasions last night it happened on numerous occasions against Dagenham & Redbridge too.

The second Weymouth goal, whilst also a well taken counter attack goal came about due to a rush of blood from Sacha Opinel and the lack of cover behind him. If he is going to continue with his runs down the left and in many ways I hope that he does, provision is going to have to be made to cover behind him.

I missed the interview with the Weymouth chairman so can't comment, although certainly for much of the first half it did seem that I was listening to the 'Weymouth appreciation society'. Thought Nigel Clough's comments were fair though.

Pity the unbeaten run has come to an end, it had to eventually I guess, lets hope the team can use last nights game as a launch-pad for even better and greater things.

Weird but nevertheless fantastic to see the lads on Sky sports.

Before kick off I was getting the hump with all the 'Weymouth this, Weymouth that' crap, there were two teams playing. So it was especially gratifying to see us put on a good performance and to show that it's not just the financially endowed clubs who can play football. I think for periods of the game we passed them off the park.

By the start of the second half Clive Walker was coming around to our point of view, saying good things about our young squad, decent manager, decent staff and Clough junior was fair in his summing up after the game.

At the end of the day it was great exposure for our 'little' club and we did bloody well and were very unlucky not to get something from the game

The next time we're on, lets hope it's at san Stonebridge

He should have called the ref a twat for the cycle shorts incident, got booked, and that would at least have taken care of his suspension for five yellow cards while he was injured!

Sky's coverage (and a#&e kissing) to Wahey-muff before during and after the game was nothing short of disgraceful ... reminded me of the BBC coverage of "while little fairytale Cinderford ... or Gravesend ... will play Aston Villa FAC 3RD" ... we will always be nobodys as far as the corporations are concerned , until we regularly win trophies/leagues/win the FA Cup big games/get a twat chairman and/or manager (not Clough jr though - top bloke )...BUT - at least Sky did keep mentioning how young most of our team were last night - that should give us a lot of hope when players come looking for a contract at San Stonebridge ... they know we have a manager that believes in youth and will play them , and also older more experienced players that come thinking they will push the youth element out ... so long as we get players interested in coming to the Fleet it makes Saint Liam's job a bit easier come transfer window time and end of season .

I think you will find that the age of the side has a lot more to do with the budget than having a manager that believes in youth.

We have to play kids because we can't afford men, as long as they keep playing well I don't see a problem until it comes time to renew contracts. Once these boys have a years Conference experience we might not be able to afford to keep them.

He wasn't there, I don't know where you saw him but it wasn't at Weymouth.

He lives in the television and talks to Hirsty after Hirsty's had a couple of Strongbows.

Ok, I see, he should have been at work then....I'll keep quiet, but he was there as I pointed him out to my missus as one of the faces I recognised !! I'll ask him Saturday. Young chap, maybe late teens/early twenties with light gingerish short hair. Definitely saw him, although I am keeping quiet !! Maybe if anyone taped the game then they could settle the discussion, but I am keeping quiet !

Cheers,
