Ok who else was wrong

Recommended Posts

I may not have joined in with the 'we can't get out a 5-a-side team' knicker wetting but I have to confess that with the wholesale departures in May, particularly as they included some of my alltime favourites, I was extremely concerned about what sort of quality we would have in the squad this season.

With 12 matches gone I think we have seen enough of the new team to form opinions and I have to say I am absolutely delighted with Liams signings.

Debolla's goals and range of passing obviously stand out. Keeling has the ability to beat players and provide top quality service, it would be nice to see a goal from him. Cronin is excellent in goal. Ricketts has hardly put a foot wrong, if any of our players are going to move on to a higher level I suspect Mark is the man most likely to. Sodge looks much more interested than last year.

With various other newbies who haven't had a chance to shine yet together with the backbone of last years team we have a good mixture of youth and experience and as good a squad as I have ever seen at the Fleet.

I don't know if the squad will be quite good enough for a play-off place but I know it is a damn sight better than I expected to see this season.

Well done Liam. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

I admitted I was wrong on here, and got berated by Harry J for doing so.

The early showing is that we ARE a better side than last year.

I had hoped to avoid relegation, now I'm hoping for a top 8 finish.

Chatting amongst those Luddesdowne cricketers who made a welcome appearance on the terrace yesterday, it was thought that not only do we have a new team, we seemed to have a new manager.

Hope the Luddesdowne boys turn up again on Saturday and bring some mates.

Who's Harry J? Your boss?

The great thing about Football Supporters is that we are all right in our views but some are righter than others, or so they think.

I could be one of those!!!!

Ha ! CG.....you crack me up !! Had it been up to you last season, Daish would have been sacked.....and therefore not been given the chance to assemble the team we see now.

Hindsight a ?...a wonderful thing !! Hope you are embarrassed by your previous rants....but then again, I doubt it !!

Regards,

PS....we await the return of RR when we lose a couple of games !!

..and also nice to see Harry J getting all the blame ( no offence H)

Were you in the bar at half-time, Hirsty?
If so, you missed a shooting display by Harry J unsurpassed since Che left us!!

Yawn - more unnecessary and gratuitous Che-baiting.

The fact that we're only two points and one place above where we were at the same stage last season means I will continue to be cautious, and would be delighted with a top half finish of any kind. It'll be easier to gauge our levels of improvement or otherwise once the winter, with the increased injury and suspension problems that it can often bring to test the strength in depth of the squad, has well and truly set in. As for a full judgement, this can of course only be delivered at the end of the season (note how entertainment levels weren't all that bad at the start of last season, yet tailed off dramatically).

There are obviously some promising signs though, many of them identified by Slarti.

In my opinion if your happy for the performance tell the world, if your not keep your opinions off the forum and to yourself, your silence will have it's affect.

If you do go on the forum and say what you think you should at least have the grace to tell the man to his face. I had such an opportunity on Saturday. He knew of the witch hunt out for him last season but said he wasn't fussed about what people said on internet forums. He then asked was I part of any witch hunt I said I wasn't but at only one time had I shown lack of faith in him or the club (all of my previous post's can be viewed).

It was after the Aldershot game last season, that was the one Gary where we played well in the first half but the Shots, against the run of play, were 1-0 up at half time and then you used your phone to come on here, while at the ground, and tell everyone how crap it was, even though it wasn't and even if it was there was no-one to read your post so you may as well have kept quiet. The second half we fell apart and were crap, I went into the bar to tell him what I thought unfortunately he wasn't there. I then came home and gave him a bit of a slagging off.

On Saturday I told him about this and apologised for saying that he should have come in the bar. To go into the bar after the game is not in his contract. I also said that had I been asked at the end of last season should Daish go or stay then I would have said go. I tried to get across that this was just my opinion on what I saw of the team that he had assembled. It wasn't personal I just didn't think he was a good manager.

I am yet to swing the other way but early signs are that he has now assembled quite a good team on a very low budget. He asked would I swap Kelling for Jacko, De Bolla for Saunders or Rickets for Protheroe I said nope I'd take the new signings every time.

I then said that part of the reason the fans were on his back is Scott Gooding. I thought he was sh*t, sorry to offend but I did, I reminded him that Scott was his signing no-one else’s.

Last season was a difficult period for the club it was and will probably be nicknamed in future publications as "the transitional season". Had Liam had a fully full time squad things may have been for the better, had he had a fully part time squad things may have been better but last season was one we had to go through if we are to become an outfit in this league.

With a part full time and part part time squad things are always going to be difficult so I think it was a little unfair for people to jump on his back. What you should have done is waited for a year, this is now Liam’s team he signed every one of them on full time deals so only now can we say what we think about his management credentials.

As for the crossbar challenge I'd like to see you have a go. Until you do I recommend you keep quiet. Given the opportunity I'd do it again.

Can't argue with most of that, Harry, although I wouud say the entertainment value (even after Dagenham) has gone up leaps and bounds.

Yes we have new players, yes they are now Liam's team, but more importantly it is the style of football that is pleasing me most.

Last year we were tactically inept, route 1 football, poor substitutions, no team spirit. It was therefore no surprise that many people dissillusioned with the football were calling for liam's removal.

I cannot retract what I said last year - we were pants after the new year, but I am happy to put that behind us.

all I can reiterate is that is though Liam has been reborn as a manager, vastly different tactics, imaginative team line ups and quality, timeous substitutions.

I again thank Liam for that.

I cannot see this squad collapsing as badly as last year's.

As for the crossbar challenge, I'm sure I would make a bigger hash of it than you did, I was a (sort of) keeper in a past life, and don't think my attempts would even stay in the stadium.

Yes we were wrong.

There's plenty who called for Daish to go.

We were wrong.

The bizarre thing is I STILL haven't seen this new side.

Holidays, work and personal circumstances have denied it every time so far.

Off wednesday and still can't go to Weymouth, as I'll be attending a family funeral in the afternoon.

Just as well that one is on Sky TV, eh?

Last season we were doing fine until Charlie got injured, the lack of goals without him showed how little depth there was to the squad and without disparaging James Smiths efforts, I thought he battled superbly for the side, finishing the season with a centre half as the main striker did not inspire confidence.

We should also remember that for both of the last two seasons we have got enough points on the board early enough not to get dragged into the relegation battle but haven't had enough points to get close to the play-off battle. Results have inevitably reflected the fact that the points were more important to the sides we played against than they were to us. I expect that we will reach the same position this season and wouldn't be at all surprised if we end the season with a dip in form again.

Of course this shouldn't matter to any fans of Gravesend and Northfleet as the team always need our support even more so when things aren't going so well.

Fans of Gravesend and Northfleet winning however will no doubt return to berating the management/playing staff as soon as we lose a couple, which of course is as certain as death and taxes.

Am I missing something? You should maybe take your own advice <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

And as for the crossbar challenge, I doubt I'll get a chance to do it myself, but I saw the little kid with you have a great crack at it, so it can't be too hard to kick the ball in the right direction at least lol

Slarti, it was happening on Saturday against Dagenham and we are unbeaten in 9, and who were they slagging,
Charlie Mac!!!, mainly because of "the chance".

Well, I had the boy with me, but there were many expletives in my head, is it some kind of genetic disease thats only found in G & N supporters.

As you say, lose a couple and its back to "family favourites and the team of 40 years ago, when I was a lad etc etc

<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/ban.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/attentat.gif" alt="" /> Either of these actions will do for me!
