OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT: Eddie Denton

"Regrettably due to postings on the Unofficial Slough Town Fans Forum this statement has had to come to light today, as the only people who knew about Eddie's decision yesterday were the club's management and coaching staff members."

That statement sums up everything that is wrong with the Club. They choose not to tell anybody anything, ever, then get upset when supporters use other means of finding out. The words "piss up" and "brewery" spring to mind.

Totaly agree Ian - if the club sorted its communications out it would not have all this speculation about what is or is not going on.

If the club cant even reply to a simple email or letter then what chance of proper communications with the masses!

Or is it just a case of secret squirels - dont tell the fans they will find out after the event as they are not worthy of being communicated with.

The management of the club continue to live in their own little world away from reality and whilst this remains the club will continue to founder - unfortuately the wrong man has gone!!!!!

I disagree. I think it's fair enough for the club management to want to withhold this information until all the playing staff have been told - I think that's only right. If I was a player I wouldn't want to find out my manager was leaving over an internet forum, based on leaked information.

There is, however, no guarantee that the fans would have been told about this in an official sense after Eddie had told the players on Tuesday evening at training, which is where I would agree with you about communication. And the other issue of course is that if management wanted this kept secret, how was it leaked?

i agree that the players should have been told before the fans knew about it, but if only the management and officials new about the departure, then it must have been one of them who leaked it to the person who posted on here? surely it is not our fault if someone at the club has spilled it?

Spot on Matt. Eddie obviously wanted to keep this private for a few more days and it seems he only wanted a select few to know until Tuesday - he is entitled to make that decision.

Eddie should have been able to let the players know in his own time, not via the news being splashed around the internet.

What relevance does that have to Eddie not wanting anyone to know about his decision? Or would you have preferred 'The Club' to release a statement without Eddies consent? Or is it just another general Whinge?

Good luck for the future Eddie, you will be missed!!

As Dom & Matt say i'll defend the club on this.

By the sound of it Eddie made his decision last week, told his management team yesterday and was going to tell the players on Tuesday.

What's the problem with this? What's he going to do? Tell the players he's leaving before an important FA Cup game - yep that will make them motivated won't it!!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Then after the game, should he tell them then? 'Oh yeah boys, know you have just lost, but just to add to the misery i'm resigning?'

I know the club don't handle certain things well - but there's nothing wrong in the way this has been handled at all.

What relevance has that got to do with ANYTHING?

Eddie's come to a personal decision. Done nothing wrong in the way he has handled it. OK, so someone has opened their big mouth and it's been spread to the net, but that's an personal issue of TRUST in who Eddie has told and is between Eddie and those people - NOTHING to do with the club.

With respect, I think people are missing the point. My original comment was not about whether a statement should have been released before Eddie had told the players - clearly it shouldn't. My point is that in the official statement from the club they have had a dig at rumours being discussed on here. Well that is clearly their own fault as it's a direct result of them not communcating properly, if at all, over this or anything else.

One day they might realise that people actually care about things that happen at STFC.

absolutely gutted to hear about Eddie resigning... as anon pointed out above, he served the club with honour, and on a personal note, was always prepared to stop for a chat and a smile. Eddie will be sorely missed, but in the mean time best of luck to westy and darron until a permanaent manager is found.

Given the fact that Eddie's likely departure has been pretty much public knowledge since the Folkestone game I don't have a great deal of sympathy for anyone about the way the news leaked out.

It seems to me that yet again the Club believes that the players are more important than the supporters which is frankly [****!!****].

If Eddie wanted to tell the players before anyone else he should have told them AFTER the Farnborough game - then the problem was solved.

To blame the fans for KNOWING before the players did.... sums up the professional inadequacies and continuing lack of management 'people' skills at STFC.

In any organisation it is imperative that when a key manager resigns, that person's team and closest colleagues are informed at the earliest possible opportunity – possibly within minutes and definitely that day – after senior management have accepted the resignation, and preferably by the person themselves, in person or by phone.

This was not done and the result was 100% predictable – in an organisation as fractured and leaky as STFC the news got out.

Any fans who have discussed Eddie's departure online prior to the 'official' announcement cannot be blamed – it was not their role to ensure all players had been informed.

Nor can you really blame the person who 'leaked' the news – it was always going to happen and simply down to who blurted first. They may even have believed all players etc were aware.

You have to believe that ONE DAY, one day, things will change.

this is all smoke and mirrors,he must have told someone who obviously let it out, maybe he wanted it that way, who knows,or cares for that matter.be interested to see where he goes next and how long before he gets there.

if mark west is put in charge for the rets of season, then relagation is a certainty. what did he do for thames utd.

i don't understand martin deaner chucking money at a lost cause-what he should be doing is spend a bit more, get a decent team, get promotion and get the crowds back-many clubs have been homeless for a lot longer than us. so if the dream of a new home does materialise then we would be in a decent position.

That has to be the most ridiculous thing ever posted on a website anywhere. Comments like that are more likely to make him withdraw his funding altogether.
Which part of cloud-cuckoo land are you living in?
If he puts a million pounds in and you spend it on players you're still left with nothing! Yes, get back in the conference and play where exactly? What's the nearest conference-graded ground and would the supporters travel there in numbers?

sounds like you don't want to lose the money you get from slough town.

nearest ground that were in the conference was hayes, probably less than 10 miles, easy by train or car.
