Anybody want to take a bet that we'll be seeing penalties Tusday???

Team news:

Mel unavailable so Ronnie Worster steps in for his debut.

Swaine injured (dead leg)

McSweeney fit

Worster

McSweeney Heffer Blewitt Kerrigan

Game Hunter Dormer Hodges

Burbridge Flack

Subs

Elder for Burbridge (Injury)

Collins for Hunter (Injury)

Lee-Finch for Hodges

Not a bad game, Worster made two good saves either end of the match, we've had more chances than them but not really worked their keeper enough. When Collins came on for Hunter early in 2nd half there was a lot more quality ball into the box, but we were guilty of not attacking the ball enough in the area.

There captain saw red with practically last kick of the game (mouthing off at the ref), but will be available for the replay.

A Hayes view:-

"Posted: Sat 30 Sep, 2006 6:57 pm Post subject:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We were s..t today.

Rickay had all the chances but couln't finish. We had a hand full of chances and only came near on about three ocations. At one stage I thought Gill was the only player making the effort to play although Liam was working hard.

We always seem to got the worst ref posible. OJ got sent off in the last minute. Not sure why.

Replay on Tuesday 7:45 (with the same ref???) "

And here's another:-

If Billericay could shoot straight, we'd have been out. They had plenty of possession but they didn't test Kevin Davies with anything too nasty. As it was, their keeper pulled off the best two saves of the game to deny Josh in the first minute and Jon Dyer in the second half.

Can't comment on the sending off, but I assume he gave too much lip, which for a captain would be disappointing.

Adam Logie was our best player today. He's improving well. Unfortunately, while our central midfield consists of Joe Sparrowhawk and Ryan Ashe, we'll have to write off any chance of creativity coming from that department, which puts a lot of pressure on our young wingers.

Well the ref didn't give what looked a penalty when Joe was wrestled to the floor by their defender...

Actually asked him about the sending off as I left (he was in the car-park) - it was a straight red, not a 2nd yellow - and I got the impression he would have got away with just a yellow but he said something.

It will be the same ref on Tuesday (or at least it shoudl be)

Er... that wasn't Gazza.

So is that really what FG stands for Les?

Or was he making it up?

I knew that Rick, but our Gazza feels we have more than our fair share of penalties.

Damm the whole world knows... it goes back many a year, and I used it as my fantasy football team competition we run (won it for the last two years)

Our Peter I assume must of felt that the whole world needed to know, but then I'm one of the three moderators that agreed to ban him on our MB.

Hopefully both teams will win our replays, and who knows we might get drawn against each other come Monday.

Well if you knew it wasn't me why mention me, twat? Obviously got some some "Gazza obsession"...When we play you later in the year, do I have to have some sort of secirity just in case you take this "obsession" a bit further? It must some sort of disease in Chelmsford...that or a cologne...Hey, I like that..."Gazza's Obsession"...only it appears to attract squatters at the mo...

We have dominated the game against a team from a higher league and again failed to get the result that we should have.

The more I see of us this season the more convinced I am that we are just a quality striker away from being a very strong team at this level. I wish Burbridge and Holland all the best and really hope they do well but it's a big ask to step up effectively two levels in one bound especially when the pressure on them will be high from the start. I believe that we should have looked for proven quality rather than unknown quantity (altho noone will be happier than me if they both stick 20 away).

Having said that it was a solid performance from us, we certainly have nothing to fear in the replay and I strongly believe that we will get through. I thought Dorms had his best game of the season today and many congrats to Ronnie Worster who pulled off a couple of excellent saves and kept a clean sheet on his debut. Well done!!

May be able to help you there jl - how about CCFC swap one of there quality strikers for one of your quality defenders. Then we could BOTH be very strong teams at this level.

BTW - according to Gazza, shouldn't you be down the pub with your family by now?

Well as we are such a small team compared to the mighty "City" (who are apparantly two levels above us anyway) perhaps you could give us a striker and we won't give you anyone back. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Must go my pint's getting warm.....

I have to say well done Ronnie. Everything was spot on . When collins came on we looked more dangerous with balls coming in from the left and right.

Lets hope we've got our shooting boots on for Tuesday.

I agree with JL. If only we could get (and could afford) a proven goalscorer I'm sure we would be a)Higher in the league, and b)already in the 3rd Qual Round of the FA Cup.

We squandered chance after chance again yesterday and I just fear that Hayes wont be as poor as that on Tuesday. Having said that I'm still confident....of it going to Penalties

yep, Ronnie had a good game, he's now got an opportunity to show his professionalism and make a name for himself.

The red card was for foul and abusive language to the crowd.

Leon has an Ankle problem and will be out for a few weeks.

and Jl, whoever informed you that we do not look up the leagues when seeking new players is wrong.

Now I’ll grant you our strikers are going through a lean patch, and yes the two new lads came from leagues below, but that doesn’t mean there’re not quality.

Can I remind you that Nathan scored 14 goals in his first 17 games for us, and Peter crouch went 17 games with Liverpool before scoring.

Of course our goals for column is below what we expect, no one would deny that, and of course everyone , including the players is disappointed we don’t have more points on the board,, but it’s not our, or any other teams for that matter, god given right to win a football game.

We’ve had a tough draw in the FA CUP so far, first Hampton and Richmond and then a connie South side…we’re in the draw Monday, and from what I saw Saturday we have a good chance of progressing to the next round… it’s not going to be easy, but if we play well, which we did on Saturday imo, we can do it.

C’mon you blues.

I thought we played well and as has been all ready commented here, the only thing we lacked was the final killer punch. Hayes didn't really offer that much as we dominated for most of the game.

Mention should be made about Ronnie Woster's performance, which was solid with two important saves at both ends of the game. Having Collins and Hodges on for the majority of the second half was also a bonus as we got crosses in from both sides.
