well said slarti he should of had it today half a dozen quailty saves

Really? His spectacular tip away from Benson's header early on was excellent, and his one-on-one save from the same player later on in the half was also impressive, but there wasn't too much else in the way of strenuous stops.

Not that I'm criticizing him though. A goalkeeper can only save what's hit at him, he did everything asked of him, and he was a potential candidate for my man of the match along with Ricketts and Ross.

A point's no disgrace against the side placed second in the table, and was probably a fair result. Great to see the home crowd climb over the one thousand mark for the first time in quite a while too - let's hope the 0-0 doesn't scare off those floating fans again.

Coming from a man who sounds as though he has never played in goal at a decent level before.
Goalkeeping is not merely making the spectacular save (of which Lance did 2 today), it is positional play, distribution, organising the defence against free kicks, throw in, corners, and commanding the area. It is the latter where Lance can improve, and indeed is doing.
All round he is a top keeper, following in the gloves of many fine keepers before him, Hughes, Cowan, Smelt, Lewington, Turner and Turner, Wilkerson to name but a few.
As you rightly said, he can only stop what is aimed at him.
The truly class keepers keep shooting to a minimum by organising those ahead of him.

A somewhat selective piece of quoting there, Gary? I was merely correcting the factual inaccuracy in Mike's post.

As you correctly say, goalkeeping is about a lot more than just saves, and Lance did nothing wrong today.

Sorry, JC, just being a bit picky.

I actually thought that the defensive unit played very well today, considering Daggers attacking reputation and alleged goalscoring capabilities.

I made it only 3 clear attempts on goal, all well dealt with.

For me, Lance was man of the match, closely followed by Ricketts.

Really plaeased for Sacha, looked very "up for it" and looks a handful going forward. Will pose some problems for better teams than Dagenham when he is palying behind Keeling.

For me, Lance was proffessional and brave, he was the busier of the two keepers, not denying us the point as we had the real chance, unlucky charlie.

If Lance could exercise his lungs a bit more often, he could well be the b*ll**ks.

I was all for naming macca mom, but having read the thread, I agree its Lance for me.

Lance WAS superb today - didn't put a foot wrong IMO ... so was the whole defence as a unit , including the smothered attempts on our onion bag , where Lance also was positionally terrific . Once again , it is clear that we ship less goals with Macca on the pitch than Hawkins ... not knocking Peter at all , but there it is ... roll on Wednesday , and next Saturday ... and every game , come to think of it ! Haven't felt this much optimism since we won the Ryman - long may it continue . CRY GOD FOR GRAVESEND , CHARLIE AND SAINT LIAM !!!

You here about the lack in numbers re the current fleet squad, but how many 1st team combinations can you make, that will do the job required?

I think that you will be surprised. We may lack in numbers, we definitely have strength in depth.

Isn't life great.

I was unsure about Lance when he first came to the club, but he has now converted me.
Just think he has to brush up a little on his kicking, to many go into touch for my liking.

Having no real height up front, it maybe that the team instruction is to clear towards the wings as opposed to hitting the centre backs, who are normally taller than our guys, giving the likes of Charlie, Jon and Luke, the opportunity to bring the ball down and play on the deck?

That is possible, and maybe true, but I still feel that he gives us very little chance due to the closeness to the touchline

Was last year your first season watching the Fleet then Busta?

Lance might hit the occasional stray ball into touch but Wilko regularly cleared the stand.

Maybe the answer is a big man up front, thats unlikely at the moment, I agree with Slarti, Lance is no wilko, he does effect some control with his clearances that makes me think that its a playing policy of the team.

If there is time he tends to play to the defenders, generally the full backs, who then play the ball up the line, taking out the centre of the field.

Is the pitch at Lewes wider, is he still having problems with his laces?

Wilko - good servant - great shot stopper and one on ones - hope he is fit and well - a character albeit infamous with fleet supporters.

No mate try about 40 seasons.but it is Lances overall keeping that has impressed me now, yes Wilko's kicking was dire, that's when he actually managed to connect with it!!!!
