Call me a killjoy, but as a regular Fleet supporter, and having been so for a number of years, I am becoming increasingly agitated by the odd few 'so called supporters' who seem to have a restricted vocabulary and can only muster up the odd 'F' and 'C' word throughout the game.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't offend me personally, but considering I take my kids to every game, I don't expect them to be subjected to 90 minutes of it.

At Margate yesterday there were several cries of the dreaded 'C' word, which became boring after a while.

We all know that it goes with the territory, but some seem to take it a bit too far.

Gravesend fans are normally a credit to both the team and the town we live in. It's a shame when you get the odd one or two brainless twats who have such a limited vocabulary that they can not think of anything more constructive to say!

Long live the Fleet!

Mr.Red.

Well said Mr Red I couldn't agree more, and some players are as bad I mean the odd expletive muttered in the heat of the moment is one thing but some can't even complete the pre match warm up without liberal use of the f and c word, I don't want to sound like a prude but lets remember there are young children within ear shot.

Doesn't look like Saturdays game with Yeovil will go ahead its still chucking it down outside, at least a bit of snow would look nice!

You say it does not offend you personally, so are complaining on behalf of your children? This seems unlikely as they will hear language that is just as bad in the playground.

As you say, swearing comes with the territory and "several cries of the dreaded C word" in an afternoon doesn't seem too bad to me. If there was non-stop obscene chanting then, yes, I would find that a bit wearing.

The thing is people expect football fans to be passionate and vocal yet not to swear. Human nature just isn't like that! And it is ironic you use the word twat in your otherwise eloquent posting.

I'm as guilty as most when it comes to the use of industrial language on the terraces which I've always put down to passion and enthusiasm. However, it's a good point well made, so like Super I'll try to clean up my act in 2003.

That rather depends on which school your child goes too, but there really is no excuse for it you can shout and be passionate without swearing, at many grounds stewards turf people out for such language.

'Does anyone else think the number 9 chappy is a masturbator!'

Is that ok.

Im a respectable person in a professional job, i am going to find this extremely hard to not F*****G swear every other F*****G sentence at the B****Y W****R in the black!!

But i will try to refrain myself and only swear when i get home!

I say old chap, I hardly like to mention this, but did you fail to notice that the follicly challenged chap in the rather fetching blue shirt had manouvered himself into a position considerably beyond our last line of stout hearted defenders.

Or would you rather: f***ing hell ref, that w***er Collins was f***ing miles offside? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I,as a young un', arent bothered by the language used at football grounds, at grounds across the country it is the same story. If you think the language is bad at stonebridge road you should take a trip to a local school. At the end of the day they are JUST WORDS(what idiot ever came up with the idea of swear words anyway..),they generally mean nothing(in the context they are used) and are just used to get rid of the pent up anger built up by living in a place like gravesend(and of course watching our beloved fleet messing it up royaly). If you are that bothered about the language i suggest you sit in the stand(where you even get a better view but not the atomosphere, though you seem to object to that). I think it will be a sad day when you can no longer swear at football matches.

Ok let's stir it up a bit!

Why should behaviour at a football ground be any different from the way people normally behave elswhere, but then there will always be an element who forget to engage their brain before setting their mouths into motion.

i think that people behave differently at football matches because at football matches the "emotion is runnin high",normally we dont have things that annoy us as much as some blind man in black running around ruining our day, football(as previously stated) is a release of emotions, thus we swear,if you dont like that go somewhere else in the ground

One of the many reasons people go to football is to let off steam. After a week in the workplace where they are forced to carry out crappy, soul-destroying jobs, football acts as a wonderful release. It is a parallel universe, a place for escapism.

Regulate people's behaviour too much and you will kill the passionate atmosphere in grounds that we all cherish.

Plus, if you are going to throw out fans for swearing, what about players and managers? They do it all the time!

Bad language is embedded into the culture of football. Listen to a typical manager's team talk and you will see this is true. And, at the end of the day, they are only words. Lots of people swore yesterday, no one got killed...
