So hello and goodbye......

I've just checked with the chap who used to drive the red tractor, and of course, the matter is not entirely straightforward.

We do not have a John Bull printing set, as they cost over £1000, apparently. Anyone who wants their, or someone else's, name on the back of a replica shirt should go to "Magic Touch" in Verulam Road. Mention my name and they will add 10% to the bill, donating 5% to the club. "Doin' it for the City', etc.

Firstly, I gather that Alexis 'Jack' Nicolas is to have the Number 27 and that was included in his contract. No money, just the 27 shirt, a club Ferrari, and £1000 per week to t'lads agent.

It would seem that it is a League requirement that the name and squad number appear on the back of a players shirt. However, as the template for the name and number come from some firm in Newcastle - now there's a surprise - the League take a relaxed view if a player is signed at 4.55 on a Friday afternoon and he is required to play the next day. The chap who used to drive the red tractor was tempted to write Husnu on the back of the 24 shirt in pencil last Saturday, but was busy doing the team-sheet thing.

Finally, a never to be repeated opportunity that will be of interest to all true Saints fans.

A very limited number of "Authentic Nationwide Conference Nationale Saints Shirts" are available. Named and numbered. With the Nationwide patches which do not appear on the replicas. No 18 Sozzo, No 11 Wilde, and one other, in my excitement, I've forgotten which one - but it's definitely not No 6 Lewis - are available. One careful owner. Never raced or rallied, etc.

[i have suggested that the Number 6 should be 'retired'.]

An ideal early Christmas present, if you buy presents for someone with those names, I would have thought.

Eh? I don't know how much, I'm not selling 'em. Around £50 each would be a bargain if you ask me. Allright £40 each. Ask the chap who used to drive the red tractor, I have people who deal with this kind of stuff.

I'll waive my usual commission in the event that sales follow this announcement. Doin it for the City, etc., once again.

This is a damning indictment of the present state of Brighton's squad!

Presumably the sponsors of Wilde's kit will get the option to receive his shirt (sans signature) or gamble on the next exciting signing having the same surname as themselves? I wonder what the chances of that are?

Poor old Sozzo didn't have a kit sponsor so fortunately that problem doesn't apply. The other guy is Harper, is it not?

Put all the old shirts on Ebay, that chap who lives in Pak (sic) Street should be able to arrange it.

P.S. No. 27 ? So who is no. 26 ? ('I am not a number, I am a free man' etc for all you older readers).

1. Look out for anyone called Ridley becoming available in the transfer market over the next few days.

2. It probably is Harper now you mention it.

3. Hmmnnn. I think that the contribution made by our friend from 'Pak Street' to the Supporters Club Bank vault should be checked before a consignment of very exclusive, highly valuable, if not priceless merchandise is delivered to him/her. We're not talking about a couple of unwanted matchday programmes, you know [notwithstanding the great job that Lee Wood and his colleagues do in putting the interesting and informative content together before passing the final copy to the printers and the truly majestic job what they do in producing the thing - a thousand thanks from me to all of them. Gre-e-a-a-a-a-t job, guys! Way to go!! Get in the hole, ball!!!]

4. How should I know know who 26 is? Perhaps it's a spare. I heard that Alexis "Jack" Nicolas specifically agreed to join us on the basis that he could have the No. 27. It's like Johann Cruyff and the Number 14. Well. It's a little bit like that actually, but you know what I mean. [Whoever Johann Cruyff is.] "Jack" probably had the No 27 when he played for the St Josephs School, Limassol, Under 6s and it's become a bit of a tradition for t'lad. He probably insisted on that number at Chelsea, too. Fair play to 'im, I say.
