Sorry Rhodes, I know this is about S.S.M.L. but I hope you do not mind me posting this, who knows may-be Kentish Town will be there 1 day.
Manic - I was very interested in your thread actually and it's an excellent Website, I used to have a softspot for South Shields and North Sheilds a number of years ago, I had a penpal in South Shields at the time (a girl) who I used to fantasise over (don't tell Paula) and what with taking an interest in Northeast football anyway going back to Bobby Moncur lifting the Fairs Cup for Newcastle, Sunderland v Leeds '73 and Blyth Spartans famous Cup run it has brought back some memories. Whatever became of North Shields, didn't they fall on hard times and had to fold.

I really immersed myself in North East football when I studied up there. As well as taking in St James park, I also enjoyed the delights of Gateshead International Stadium (one of the woest places to watch a game of football), Billingham (one of the bleakest places to watch football) and the delightful Heaton Stannington a lovely little club. I also have had the priviledge of seeing the outrageous slope on the Tow Law pitch where Chris Waddle learnt his trade (well there and the local sausage factory!)

Lato - An interesting post, there is certainly something unique and special about the Northeast such as the people and the countryside and Northeast football in particular. Spennymoor were another of those non league Club's that nearly always used to find their way through to the FA Cup 1st Round in the 70's and Tow Law Town and Gateshead as you say as well as South Shields and North Shields. I think the Blyth Spartans cup run is the highlight for me when they were a minute away from reaching the sixth round against Wrexham.

For once Rhodes we are singing from the same hymnsheet ( I must be ill and definitely if I'm using phrases like that!!!). Blyth were desperately unlucky in that game v Wrexham as the Welsh team equalised from a retaken corner after the ref or linesman spotted the corner flag was not upright. The great Alan Shoulder was a lynchpin of that Blyth team...bizarrly he is one of my mothers all time favourite players (for some reason she is a Newcastle supporter even though she comes from Barnet)

Lato - Yes I never thought this would happen in a million years, I was also a big fan of Alan Shoulder and I recall that Newcastle snapped him up from Blyth for a bargain 20,000 shortly after their cup run came to an end. I came across the link below which you might be interested in:

Tommy Cassidy is another of my favourite Northeast players and I see he's doing well at Workington these days although they got beat 2-1 at Ossett Albion in the Cup yesterday after leading at the interval.
