I would not count Stephens as one of the four, I meant Gant/Tickner.

Stephens in the middle of the park? yes, centre back? the Witham game says it all, he had his best games for the Town last season in the middle.

The point about the back four for Man U is well made and Arsenal had a similar settled back 4 for many years when they were successful under Graham and later Wenger.

Even with Rudi back I don't think we have anyone really suited for the captain's armband. It's a shame that Penn has gone because he would have been an ideal candidate.
