If this current "jailbird" turns out to be as brilliant as a couple we've employed in the past (names withheld to protect the guilty), then he'll be an extremely valuable acquisition indeed.

BC. If I recall correctly FP's "bird" was not due to violent crime? (I presume you're reffering to FP?). I am really suprised that you'd be happy to see this fellah in a Claret shirt. A lot of fuss was created on the Soapbox last season about the Jamie Richards "incident" with a lot of fans thinking it was right for him to go. That was mild compared to what this guy was jailed for.

Sure, people should be given a second chance; but by the people they've "wronged". I think it's an error of judgement for Chelmo to step in, no matter how desperate your current mid-field is

.. but hey!, he hasn't committed any offence at CCFC yet...

CCFC not part of the British Judicial System then? The guy was jailed for GBH on the field of play! In front of paying spectators no doubt including a fair few impressionable young males. He commited an offence against society, not just the other player or Staines. I'm astounded that King can come out with the statement quoted on your web site; "(he's)just the sort of player we're after in the centre of the park."

So you need a thug in the centre of the park to compete in this league do you? That's a long way from your closed season aspirations isn't it?

Think you've missed my point Dill. It's not that he's done bird. That fact just underlines the seriousness of the offence that took place on the pitch.

You suprise me NWS. I didn't realise that it was as common as you make out. If that is the case what is the FA's response in these instance? It hardly adds to the "family atmosphere" that they claim to be so keen on.

I see two seperate issues here. There is the wider issue of what level of violent behaviour the football community is prepared to accept from it's members, bearing in mind the level of child & youth support.

Then there is the narrower issue of any club being prepared to relax it's moral standpoint and employ a known violent player because it finds itself "in a bit of a hole".

I appear to be in a minority of one on both these issues so I'll shut-up now But no one has said anything to convince me to change my mind.
