Or, ride a bike <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> Would it look cool to sellotape a club flag to my bike?

"Other than paying for a couple of coppers to patrol the area"

I thought we (the individual ) did pay for Policing ? Isn't it called Income/Council Tax ?

Cheers,

I agree! but as coucil tax payers we do not have to pay for everyone who holds a public event.
The club or whoever are responsible to pay for the security of there own events.
Ok maybe security guards/Stewards outside the stadium, cannot arrest anyone, but maybe they just may prevent some if not all of the crimes from happening by there presence.

End of the day, it isn't the club's fault.

The bloke writing a letter to The Reporter is a complete twat for trying to say that it is.

Wherever one parks, you do so at your own risk these days.

That includes railway stations, before you ask.

As for the club 'being responsible for the security of their own events' - inside the ground, not on the surrounding streets.

Too many people worrying about vandalism , and vandals , here . I had the spare wheel nicked off my new people carrier when i parked it in grove road 4 years ago . It was a get-u-home jobbie , so in a way it did me a favour cos I had to buy a proper spare anyway . Then i got sucked into the extra security kit that came optionally , had to drill out a plughole for it , etc , and now it only takes me 45 minutes to change a flat ... thanx , lads ...? Anyhoo , with the mindset of these hoodies of the MTV generation , their attention will no doubt be drawn to the shiny , new (Ebbs)Fleet International car park , chock full of out-of-towners , gone for who knows how long , so we can rest easy once again ... until some bright club spark comes up with a convenient park-and-ride idea for us ?

Cannot argue with any of what you say above, but for the cost of a couple of guys to just walk about the parked cars with brightly coloured jackets on, may prevent car thefts, and save a few fans, which will more than cover the cost of the security guys.

I'm not sure that a private security patrol on a public road is a good idea.

The police are there to catch criminals, since this is one of the rare occasions that they will know both the time and location that a crime is likely to be committed they should do their job.

Unfortunately I don't think they will do their job and if a lot of people make a fuss about it I suspect that a bit of yellow paint to prevent parking on that road will be an easier option than catching a couple of thieves.

Chelsea fan. Visited Stonebridge Road for Charlton v Chelsea. Had his car broken into. "Never coming back to Stonebridge Road... if club wants more fans they should do something about it.... never happened me following Chelsea all round the country"

Now, while I sympathise with his car being broken into, and there may be some weight in improving safety around the ground to attract more fans, isn't his attitude absolutely typical of the comfortable Premiership fan. One setback and he's never coming again (not that it was a Fleet game anyway, he only came cos it was Chelsea)... this sort of thing never happens in the Premiership (never parked his car near Upton Park then...) and obviously fails to realise that if the club did do something about it, it would have to pay numerous stewards/security people which it can't afford because of the attitude of stay-at-home-or-watch-Chelsea people like him.

And the irony was he lives on Kings Farm... never got your car broken into there?!

Apparently happened as well during Exeter game, broken windows, nothing stolen, surely must be kids, out of sight, out of mind. Or somebody was rumbled?
