Playing with formations

So far, as a result of injuries, we have been playing 3-5-2, with some success.

This little link allows you to play around with your favourite line up and formation.

I'm probably showing you all a site you are familiar with, but I am at home, bored, looking after a poorly 6 year old!!

I certainly found it handy to pick my team for the Kent Senior Cup, given that we no longer have a reserve side.

I found this a while ago, let's me pick teams for the three team I support. Hamilton who reside in Division 1 in Scotland as I was brought up there, Gravesend where I lived for 12 years and now Charlton as I got the bug for them after my partner got me a ticket. Good fun to have a play around on and the team for the Kent Senior Cup will be fringe players I assume, although as we don't have a lrage squad maybe the regulars will be given the option to play or rest. :-)

One thing you can see from that is the amount of depth we have in the squad. It might just be that we haven't played poorly yet this season, but I think we have quality all over the pitch. The likes of Opinel, Long, Coleman, Sodje are probably good enough to get into the first team, but aren't going to because everyone else is playing so well. I like the fact that we have the luxury of leaving players totally out of the squad. If we do hit a patch of poor form this season, hopefully we could rotate the squad a little and let those on the fringes show their quality.

Debolla will be suspended shortly, none of our defenders have been sent off yet which must mean we are due one soon, we picked up at least two more injuries on Tuesday and neither Long or Opinel deserved to lose their place before they got injured.

You pick the best side from whoever is available, whether players deserve it or not if someone better is available you have to pick them.

I saw Long on saturday, he's now just limping from his injury, so is getting better, gradually.

He was doing some light running prior to the game at Nene Park on Tuesday.

Given that we've only seen them play about half-an-hour of competitive football between them this season, it's hard for any of us to second-guess whether these players will become first team regulars or not.

Bearing in mind MaCarthy didn't last a half with his injury (aggravating his previous one?) it might be wise ot to start with 2 barely fit centre halves.

I envisage a starting line up thus:

Cronin

J Smith R Smith Hawkins

Ricketts De Bolla Quinn Slatter Keeling

Moore MacDonald.

Of course, if Ross fails his fitness test, Ricketts could easily slip into the back three with Coleman in the middle 5.

Agreed J.C. what I meant was that neither Opinel or Long were dropped they both lost their place through injury.

I haven't seen Long at all but I understand that when the squad was being assembled for this season the intention was that Long would be the playmaker, obviously the injury has prevented that happening so far but once he is fit he may well force his way into the side.

I have seen Opinel play both for us and Crawley and I would expect him to be in the first choice starting eleven.

Looks as if the team picked itself. I would call your effort an educated guess, taking out the injured parties, assuming LD normal bit players on the bench, it was always about right.

The interesting time will be when we are injury and suspension free, (if that can ever happen!!!)
what is LD's preferred best XI?

I dont think that the current line ups will change much (including the subs on the bench) and that any decisive moves will be made in defence.
