Team for Tuesday

The Town Crier

Recommended Posts

After what was a surprising team selection Saturday, what do you guys reckon our starting eleven will be for Tuesday?

I thought Saturday’s team selection highlighted Matt's belief in all his players, it showed that we are gathering a squad with real strength in depth, and he isn’t finished yet.. Over the next few weeks it’s expected that more new players will be brought in to strengthen even further.

I thought Rikki did well in his first start.

Tough choice's for Tuesday’s game though, I can’t even decide who should keep Goal.

I thought Rikki did well but was obvious later in the first half and the second that he wasn't fit.

I prefer the formation we had against Witham with Heffer or even Dormer in a holding role just in front of the back four (midfield holding player)...And I definately perfer Kerrers at left back...no disrespect to Dorms...

It's a difficult one but I would go with

McMahon

Macca, Heffer, Blewitt, Kerrigan,

Hodges, Hunter, Ryan, Dormer

Flack, Burbridge

Subs; Elder, Swaine, Collins, Game, Capleton...

...bloody hell, that is a strong bench.

Hunter Dormer Ryan Hodges

Flack Burbridge

Subs: Mel, Game, Collins, Elder, Poole

I play Danny K at left back, I just feel he is a better player than Dorms in that position. Macca stays in at right back although I don't think he is upto last year's high form yet. I give Gameo a rest (he would start if Leon isnt fit) and play Hodges left side especially at home. Burbridge gets the nod over Nathan simply because I feel it might be a long night and Nathan off the bench against tiring defenders could be very effective. Swaine doesn't make the bench as we have at least three players out there who could cover centre back if need be.

As TC said the squad looks to have a bit of depth about it now so I would expect to see some rotation on a more regular basis now.

I would try and find a way of playing both Collins and Hodges as I reckon they have the best delivery from crosses... so:

McMahon

McSweeney Heffer Blewitt Kerrigan

Hodges Ryan Dormer Collins

Burbridge Flack

Subs: Elder, Poole, Swaine, Hunter, Capleton

It's hard on some of those that miss out, particularly Leon, but as I said I want Hodges and Collins on the wings, then players will have to miss out.

Im very surprised no-one has opted for Mel in goal. He was superb on saturday and rarely lets anyone down. I think the goalkeeper position is one you would do well not to rotate and mix around too much, therefore I feel continuity would be the best way forward. What i've said in no way reflects on billy who seems a marvellous character and a great goalkeeper, i just feel continuity would suit us more, especially in terms of communication with the defence. I will be intrigued to see who gets the nod tomorrow night.

Hodges and Collins down the wings will enable more crosses into the box for Elder and Flack to get onto.

Quite like that team, 'cept would have Hunter on bench instead of Poole. Macca has to his high standards had imo not the best of last couple of games, so could be a good time to rest and recharge etc.

Its interesting that so many of you put Hodgie on the right.

Sorry to say, but by his own admission, his preferred and most effective position is, and has always been, on the left.

I guess TC that a possible reason for this is that normally "if" Dormer or Collins were to play in a midfield scenario they are predominantly left sided players to which we as fans have seen them play, where-as Hodges can, and has been seen to focus attention on the right side at times, I guess you could call it roving. An interesting point you make though about his own admission. Ta for that. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
