Dont want to be a damp squib, but ...

This time last year, we had 14 points from 9 games - W4,D2, L3, F 14, A 15 and we ended with a poor season

This year we are curremntly just 1 point higher. We have scored more (17) and coceded fewer (11) however.

And if we take a direct game comparison, the games we've currently played this year only yielded 9 points last season (the only game we've got fewer points in this year was York at home, which was drawn last year).

Just oes to show how stats ca betwisted as you want them - th doom mongers will use the good start tio last season and predict a similar collapse of our season to come.

The positive ones will say we've got a 67% improvement in points totals from comparative games and use this to predict an exciting season ahead (continuing this improvement over the whole season would have given81 points last seaso & second plae!).

I'm not sre either will prove to be wholly correct, but I do think (& hope) that is more likely tio be nearer the better view than the pessimistic one.

I honestly don't think the doom mongers will predict a similar collapse to last year, Alan,(and I was perceived to be one of them).

The pessimism that spread across the club last year was not only results driven, but because of the awful style we played.

That nonsense is now behind us, the team are showing a new mental toughness, losing at home 2-0 at half time we would have gone on to lose 4-0, now we not only fight for 90 minutes, we do it with some style.

The evidence is that Riverview Rred has gone quiet, and the artist formaerly known as WVN has been noted making the oddpositive comment on here.

Whats your gut feeling Alan are we a better team or not than last year?

Are you impressed or not with the managers new players and his tactics and team selection to date?

Answer these questions and you might cure the damp squib problem.

Be positive. We are a good team, the rest of the league know it, so why not our own supporters.

But the awful play only kicked in for the second half of the season so that doesn't explain the 'We will be relegated by Christmas' comments.
Even more inexplicable was the 'We can't even manage a 5-a-side team' drivel this May.
Some people just like to moan.

I regarded it more as a realistic analysis of the onfield performance.

Few can argue that if we had continued with the form we showed from February onwards into this season, we really would be in the mire.

However, LD to his credit HAS changed things around, both in personnel and tactically, and we are now seeing the results.

He was being largely positive, as the final sentence of his post demonstrates.
