Attendances

It's going to be a long haul recovering lost support, Stu. Many people dissillusioned with last year's fare may have taken their support elsewhere, Charlton, Gllingham, even Dartford.

All we can keep doing is playing attractive football. The results are happening, if we can get a decent cup run together, I guarantee the crowds will retur.

Now the Northfleet end has reopened, yje athmosphere was certainly better, which just may encourage a few first timers back for a repeat viewing.

I seem to remember hearing a lot of fans saying they wouldn't go again while he was in charge. Not a perfect example of "Supporting the team" but there you go. I'd be intersetd to know how many still hold this oppinion. Should they just get off their high horse and admit they may have been wrong?

1743 on monday night perhaps they were working today? I know many of them were Chelsea and Charlton fans but I wonder how many were not? If so could the Chelsea contingent not come down today as they don't play until tomorrow?

It get very frustrating when you consider we have a town population of around 95,000 that only about 1% of them can make it to the footy. But then not everyone likes football so you can't expect them all to turn up. Pissed off with them all coming out of the woodwork if we ever get Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd in the cup.

All obvious stuff I know but key bashing seems to help.

I think your right Gary, you will probably find that when the penny drops the gates will increase in leaps and bounds.

If the team continue in the current vane, I would predict an average of 1600 at home games. They still, however, relative to other conference sides, deserve more, probably 2000, very unlikely though.

Very, very frustrating indeed. And it shows the potiental we could have.

About average crowd today, although it didn't seem like it in the Plough End!

Kent is a big county, why not try canvassing support from other towns? I'm sure not all Man U fans live in Manchester.

Many sides dont seem to be getting as many as could be expected - Grays, when playing Southport at home and second in the league at the time got only 1025. Weymouth still attracted less than 2000 today, when they were getting bigger crowds last year.

To date this season the Grays average gate is down 200 on last seasons overall average if you take the exceptional high and low attendances, strangely the attendance against Southport was 100 up on last years attendance of 918.

Weymouth last year had 5 home gates out of 21 over 2000 (2058,2110,4029,4071,5022)With these gates the average home attendance was 1941. If you removed these 5 the average is reduced to 1536

This year to date they have had 2 gates out of 5 over 2000 (3583,5244)With these gates the average home attendance this year is 2814. If you removed the 2 gates the average is reduced to 1748.

Either way the Weymouth gate so far has actually improved.

Unbeaten in 5 games with a good draw at Halifax, a win against Grays the gravesend gate today was 1167. Last year the gate against Exeter was 1578.

Fleet finished 16th last year, average home gate was 1090. To date we are 7th, scored 17 goals in 9 games, average gate 1048, 21st out of 24 for attendance at home, only Crawley, Altrincham and Northwich below us.

The average gate this year for the entire league is 1894, 9 of the 24 teams are higher than this. Take out the 29926 that have watched Oxfords 5 games this year the average is reduced to 1693, 12 of the 24 are higher than this, hence I believe that the fleet deserve to be getting at least 1600 at home for the remainder of the season if they continue in the same vane.

Have not done the figures but my gutt feeling is that to date the attendances are up on last year and not down.

You have got too much time on your hands fella.

We all know we don't have many fans, if you are going to put that much work into something why don't you do something useful like find a cure for aids or get rid of religion or design a ship capable of interstellar travel....come on its not rocket science is it?

I honestly wished I had, the post did not read right, I spent half an hour on it, the information required is in your face, it was basically copy and paste. I had to drive last night, the time stopped me drinking one to many, so I am happy mate.

As for curing the worlds ills. I think that its self destructing nicely on its own and can anybody do a thing about it, sadly, I am not so sure its possible.

Fo some reason all my mates have stopped going, and they just lounge around at home most of the time. I ask them every week to go down, but its no good!! I do try!!

Oxford at home, I've heard. is going to be ALL TICKET for the AWAY Fans. Is this true? If so, I'm gonna be busy with the programmes!! Maybe I'll sell more than Kenny!!!!!

The fact that yesterday's home fan attendance was similar to Tuesday night's, and may have even gone down a little, despite such a strong performance against Grays demonstrates just how much our support is hampered when Charlton and Gillingham both have home games on the same day as ours.

It's the same old story I'm afraid.

Forums will go round in circles thinking of ways to improve crowds.

It really needs to come from the Boardroom, by having a Director of publicity or something of that ilk.

Make it a full time post with a remit to put 500 extra fans through the gate by the end of the season, by going out into the community, Gravesend town centre, Bluewater, Chatham, Schools, clubs etc.

Pay the best to get the best.

If it is a loss leader to start with so be it.

If it succeeds, the job will pay for itself at least 6 times over.

we bought one of our friends to the game yesterday. He had never been to any football game before, it's not really his thing I think.

However, he seemed thoroughly impressed by the match yesterday and has said that he will be coming to more games.

Give it time, I'm sure after a few more wins and a continuation of the attractive football we're playing right now the crowds will come back.

Word of mouth, and seeing for oneself is a good way to spread the gospel, but to attract the missing 500 that we need requires that bit extra that the fans alone cannot provide.

somehow we need to develop and expand our football in the community program, and sell ourselves big time.

I'm sure a high profile cup run wouldn't do us any harm either.
