the lad looks great and is still fit and gagging to play...he called in to see us all today and certainly made my week...always cheerful and always an urchin at heart...

 

wanted to sign for us so we did the deal and just then TC the 'ricay' chairman arrived for coffee and a tete a tete and 'claimed' him.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

 

he did of course score 126 goals for ricay before west ham signed him and his palm imprints still grace the ricay boardroom wall to this day...

I signed jonah from bristol city after we took over the club in early 2002 when the urchins were in ryman three...no ground facilities.. no fans.. no money...

 

jonah upped the anti and brought the fans in and scored 27 goals that season as we got promoted....he brought scott gooding gavin mcgowan taff martin and adam locke to the club who all played their part in taking us on that magical ride through the fa cup fandangos and into conf south...(sadly jonah retired before that season started in 03/04)

 

no takeover...no jonah...no club....

No, Jonesy was our best signing, from the moment he came to the club there was a buzz. Also that Summer arrived Benno and Rizzo to take us up another step and raise the crowds from 50ish to 300+ and a winning team.

Every one of Jonesy's 26 goals a gem, I can recount most and his runs along the touchline and early competition with Rizzo for top scorer were A1.

To watch the fella train as well, always encouraging and ready to talk about the game, I gotta say it a true HX legend.

The year before we had signed Foxy, Rob Hawley and Joppo/ Steve Young from Witham. Steve only stayed a short time but all these players had an affect in bringing the crowds up to 100ish on some occasions but none so much as our Jonah.

Jonah was the reason I started watching the urchins. An absolute legend and a cracking goalscorer, in fact, I'd go as far as saying he was the best goalscorer I've ever seen at the Bridge. And his attitude was not of a big time charlie, he always had time for a chat and seemed to love the game.
