Subtle yes, cynical yes dominant NO.

If you are able to remember when this was the most popular forum in non-league football you will remember the brilliant (more often than not cynical) humour of CANV,HALIFAX GIRL,MERV.MATT and later LMU and several others who day on day posted comical, outrageous, intelligent football wise questions/answers and wind-ups.

There was no malice, insults yes but 99.9% with tongue in cheek and posters from many other clubs joined in.

It was a great place to indulge in a love of the game whilst having fun with each other’s styles and commitments.

Probably what were not so apparent in those days were inflated egos on the part of posters.

Would I wish for those days back? No! You never can “go back” but it would improve greatly the postings if it was a join in atmosphere where no one attempted to dominate and subtle was reinvented.

Personally I think the trouble started before that.

Before the close season the moderating was so subtle it was hardly noticable. Once we knew the King era was coming to an end, it started getting heavier with quite a bit of in-fighting between just Canvey fans, that could possibly have been put down to confusion and emotions. But this place hasn't really recovered since then.

Fans from other Clubs coming on here has never been a problem, just individual posters not knowing when enough is enough.

Yes you are a bit rough, but nothing a trowel and some plaster mix couldn't fix.

Blimey I need more than that lol.
I start getting ready really early - have to wait for Canvey Supply to make their delivery (sand & cement) then wait for Target Hire to deliver the mixer.
Really need a 2nd mortgage for the plastic surgery though.
Where did you go Cantos for your enlargement? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It’s not very often that I post on this forum nowadays and I was trying to think ‘why?’ I used to write three or four missives per day. It was this posting from Pabird that made me realise that the main reason for my absence; there are so few threads that are of any interest to serious football fans. Truth is, very few of the postings are actually about football in general or CIFC in particular, which is the reason Ian set this website up in the first place.

Take a look at yesterday’s activities just as an example. There were roughly about 90 posts made on 14th September. About 30 of them were related to what the forum was intended, the other 60 were made up of the following:

Private messages between fans (use MSM, text or email, for goodness sake and stop clogging up these pages),

Various one-liners of minimum interest to anyone other than the posters,

Straightforward insults, usually not that clever so they insult only the intelligence of others reading them, e.g. “bollox sweetheart.”

Numerous pleas from serious posters requesting that the insults, mindless pap and other nonsense stops,

A few mildly interesting discussion points about football and, finally,

The odd pearl of wisdom that is worthy of continuing in further debate.

I realise that I have fallen into my own trap and posted something that is not football or CIFC related, but I do so out of sheer frustration.

Would it be a good idea for all postings that don’t fall into either category to me moved into a single ‘Nonsense’ thread? Perhaps not, the main discussion board would only have a couple of postings per week.

All we have achieved, all we have been through, all our aspirations. The true history of the club ought to be recorded on these pages, not Keith Johnson’s book. Come on somebody, start writing about it. Please.

Top words there Merv, most eloquently put and very difficult to disagree with any of the points you make.

Having found myself embroilled with several shall we say, "disagreements" here in recent times, I have to say that I am now at the stage where I do not want to be part of this anymore, constantly wasting my time and energy responding to stupid people whose only wish is to come on here to cause an argument, whilst persuing their own agendas.

For this reason, I shall not be posting here again in the near future nor attending the next couple of Canvey games either.

Frankly, I am burned out by it all and cannot be bothered with all the negativity that eminates from this forum, which is now also starting to affect my enjoyment of following the club.

A football forum should be fun with good debate and yes, quality banter should be a big part of that too but what has gone on here recently can only be described as open warfare & hatred and that surely cannot be healthy nor right. I have thought a lot about this in the past few days and finally have come to the conclusion that it is the time to get out and let everybody just get on with it.

Hopefully things will improve in the future and I can return here again. I wish every Canvey fan here all that is good and hope for a positive result for the club in the FA Cup tomorrow.

good lord, are you being serious?

because a few people have posted messages on your forum which you don't like, you're abandoning your football club?

i'd hazard a guess that canvey didn't mean that much to you if you're willing to be this fickle.

get a grip.
