And while we are talking about pace should we not be attacking defences at pace more.Running with the ball sometimes rather than playing delicate passes that often are too weak or overhit. The football we play is exceptional most of the time but just occasionally, run with it. Robinson is a prime example of what I mean Scare em' up front.Hoggart is a similar player that attacks defences. At Ramsgate on Tuesday he did just that & rounded two players before having to be brought down.Speed & aggression against defences is another major for any side.I'd like to see Hoggart given more time out there. He is speedy & has a good footballing brain.Robinson has improved out of all recognition from years back when I saw him last. Give em both a go!

Im not sure why but Hoggart is not playing for reserves yet gets on at Ramsgate. Do you think he should be getting a regular runout to keep skill up?

Does the reserve team manager rate him or not?

Not sure whats going on here but seems there is a split with first team and reserves which is not healthy.

I noted your comments on Hoggart prior to the Ramsgate game Wenger however he came on & did good. For that one time down that flank the Rams defence couldnt get the ball of him or stop him UNTIL they pulled him down. Now he wont ALWAYS do that I grant but he showed some flair there by not being scared to take them on. Had he not been brought down he would certainly have made the move a master move & the cross would have been made at least. We need more of that kind of enterprise from the players.Less of the nerves & respect & go out with more of an authoritive & positive mind.As for your questions,I'm sorry, but I havent any answers.

Ihave no problem with him playing and agree a positive attitude is needed. Sometimes the youngsters give you that. Certainly if more were exposed to first team action it may shake up the first teamers who I believe are in a cushy position as their place is more or less guaranteed eack week by the manager. Certainly the manager has not watched any reserve games or training sessions I believe. Also teh other squad players like Smith and Robinson very rarely get a full game. How do you know what they are capable of unless you watch them in action. Why put Yiga on the bench when he has not even played for the club this season. All baffling to me.

Disagree with you guys.

This is a very tough and serious league.

I'm sure Robinson Hoggart and others can show fleeting glimpses of skill and pace, but its not just about that.

its about being in the right position, covering colleagues. Not being opushed aside physically.

That stuff comes with experience.

Surely we are here to win, and you do that with seasoned players.

I'm sure our younger players wlll come good but it will take 1-2 seasons.

Look at ramsgate, they now have a few coming through, but they started out 3 years ago and playing in leagues 2 divisions lower than the Ryman.

The Ryman is a mans league if you want to do any good in it.

Wenger I am with you that if they are good enough they are old enough but as others have said it is a very physical league and players are given very little time to show skill. Experience counts for a hell of a lot in this league and a quick brain is essential for success. Refs are on the whole poor and these youngsters wont get much protection from them. Throwing them in is not the answer. They are being eased into first team action and if they respond well they will get more games I would imagine. Its up to these young players to show they are not overawed when they get their chance.

Some very sound comments on this thread. I agree the young lads should be brought through slowly otherwise they will get the stuffing kicked out of them and lose confidence.

442 is the only way to play at this level. What player can't play 442? None. Leave the fancy stuff to the premiership. I know we achieved success before, but that was nearly 10 years ago. Things have changed in non-league since then. We won't be playing a single team this year that hasn't done their homework on us.

The problem is (as the title of this thread suggests) we have been found out for having too little speed in midfield and defence. We had a little honeymoon when sides were scared of our players' reputations and stood off us. That ain't going to happen any more so we have to get it sorted.

Judging by RT's comments elsewhere he knows what's up and intends to put it right, so let's not panic and see what happens.

At least we all seem to be agreed, which is a good sign!

More confusion from above as I believe these same young twntysomethings have played Kent league where some of the football can be pure thuggery. Not sure that argument sticks.

If they are believed to be good enough they will look after themselves but I am not sure they are being eased in for if that was the case you would bring them on when winning easily and in some of these matches even that has not happened.

This is a fixed squad and believe there is very little competition for a place in first team. I hope I am wrong but something tells me otherwise.

The last 2 results show the Gate are still short of a few good players. We need to better organised defensivelly, but that doesnt just mean the defenders. Our attackers need to close people down and on Tuesday Ramsgates defenders seemed to be running right through our midfield.

Ramsgate not only showed more pasion but were better organised and had some very good players.
