well finally got upto date with all that reading. I have to say the singing in the conf days were fab esecially at the old coffin end. you really could get some volume. but i think since the demolition and being at dover and ashford its got less and less. I prefer the old favorites personelly. I notice that the chants get poor when the game is poor! Maybe thats the problem?

you know i put some thought in to this, and i think the drum at home games dont help its often hit as hard as possible creating a distorted thud. and also is often well behind or ahead of the tune.

now that would probably be ok if 100 people were singing but when only a few sing after about 20`ft all you hear is the thud and hardly and singing through it.

also people often move away because its so loud if them people didnt move they may join in just a thought.

so options....

1, no drum so people can be heard and others join in.

2, hit the drum softer enabling people to be heard singing and encourage people to join in

3, get a softer drum.

a drum can be loud and soft.

of course this is only a thought.

All of the Margate fans i have met, most of whom are members of the choir are actually quite nice people who you can enjoy a bit of banter with.
I have no doubt they are Rob, i never said they were not but if teabar chooses to be offensive. After my point of view on the chanting, i will retaliate.

Thanks for that Legend, I do also realise that the drum is too loud for the singers we have, however there is very little I can do to make it sound softer. I tried drumming softly but the drum itself is too loud. Another option is for some of you to join in with the singing, but I don't suppose we will ever see that.

We're not arguing, Blue Boy (well, except teabar and gringo) but I think what some of us are saying is, yes, the choir is indispensible, but how can we get more people to join in to make a better atmosphere of support for the team?

What do we average at Hartsdown, 700? If there are say 21 in the choir that makes it a percentage of about three of the crowd. Now, if you have a few away supporters there it is more like less than two percent. Given that there is noise from the pitch, the bench, the crowd talking amongst themselves, the food outlets, and the irritating little sh*t on his moped next door, you are going to have to accept that this is not going to create the amount of noise necessary to give us the level of crowd support that we (and I do not like to admit this) saw at deadwood last night.

That having been said, you can stay with the attitude of 'I will sing what I like and to hell with anyone, if they don't like it, tough' in which case you are not going to change the status quo.

Or you might possibly want to consider what the choir could do to make other people want to join in. That is if you want anyone else to have a bit of fun and get behind the team. It is not about being pc, it is more about being alert to the fact that other people do not always think feel or behave the way you do, and are tolerant of the things you do, but would like to do something they feel comfortable with. There's undoubtedly room for both.

An example - whoever came up with the Scott Chalmers-Stevens song - pure genius.

You have got some mouth, why the hell do you think no one stands with you lot if any of the oppo fans you abuse came at you. You would run a mile and expect us lot to help you out.

Firstly if you have an issue with me Gringo simply come and see me in the Teabar situated next to the club shop, we can sort things out man to man. Secondly, we have taken our fair share of abuse from opposition fans in the past and we certainly would not be looking upon the likes of you to be fighting our battles for us. What we sing is our responsibility not yours so I would not expect you to stick your nose in.

Even at home games, visiting fans (Slough for example) group together and get behind the side as a unit while, once again, we have only a few people singing.

It is interesting you raise this - at away games, there are a good number of Slough fans who choose to spread themselves out. Those that stand behind the goal do try and get some sort of atmosphere going, but it isn't easy unless you have a fair number. At home, we're not great at singing. It's great if people are grouped together, especially if segregated - but you don't often get that at this level.

By the way 783 is a pretty awesome attendance, especially considering this is the Westview Cup.

we`ve all had a go at the players , now we are F...ing having a go at each other , and we call ourselves surporters of margate fc .Two weeks ago it was great to be reading good stuff on here now take a look at the f...ing stuff thats on here .This topic was about the Rams 12th man now its about Margates 12 singers on the terraces . I remember Ashford , loads of singing 1 night , a cup replay against GRAYS , it went to peneltys and the lads who had been singing all night and giving verbel now & then . suddenly mixing with the older generation of gate fans , why was that you may ask , it was because some of there fans did`nt like what was being directed at them so they came looking and found them , what people are saying guys is the singing in general is good to here, 99% of us like it , but one day that 1% will come looking again it may be one of us it might not , i myself enjoy the singing as does my daughter, but what do you tell her when she asks a question about something your shouting out . She`s always come to footy with me since she was 4 so she no`s enough about the game and the people and what they say , but some things could be toned down just a bit , sorry 4 the long winded story but we should all be 1 unit guys and thats getting the Gate through this sticky patch and that starts Saturday .UP THE GATE.
