It Was [****!!****] (Again)

This is my one and only post tonight. I can just about stomach the defeat but the lack of passion and will to win was unacceptable. I had to check the dugout to make sure Chris Kinnear hadnt sneaked in. It was back to the old "hoof it and hope" again. We all said after saturday we were looking for a reaction. I'm afraid we didnt get it!

It is concerning that several posts have mentioned we were not bothered about this game or result. I would like to think that Trotty and the squad were more professional than this in their approach. OK the westview cup may not be the highest of priorities this season but it was important to show an improvement after saturday's debacle and it was a local derby for chrissake! I woluld prefer to think that the team goes out to win every game they play. If they went out there with the attitude some are suggesting it is no surprise we got turned over. Hoping and looking for a massive improvement on Saturday.

Hockton should have been sent off after 5mins for creating the brawl.

I believe it was Pettit or Minshull who tried to take out one of our players knee height when we were on a breakaway before the mass brawl. Not even a foul given. A stronger ref might have sent him off or at least put him in the book.

Tako lunging into SCS with what in my eyes was no intention to play the ball. That's a red card offence. He got a ticking off.

Anyway this isnt the red forum so I will talk about Margate. There was some improvement on Saturday and a bit of an experiment in the line up. Louis Smith did ok on his debut but I think this position is one that needs to be reviewed closely. How many free headers did we allow them in the six yard box in the first half? I'm afraid the midfield needs to be cutting the attacks out at root more often. Also, teams want us to start hitting long balls so I'd like to see the ball on the deck as much as possible even if its just a sideways pass. And can we please stop moaning at each other when a pass goes astray. That must be a confidence boost the other team. Teams waltz down the line without so much as a challenge far too often. It's still a good start to the season but it's certainly clearer now what needs to be worked on. Last night's result isnt a worry but the general standard of performances is slipping and this needs to be stopped and put right on Saturday with a solid display like we had a couple of weeks ago or three weeks ago. We are more than capable of that. Sorry, I might sound like Ron Manager but I felt I needed to say all this now. Let's pick it up and get back to what we were doing in the second half against Slough and against Chelmsford

Agree too GW, we did play some good stuff at times when we managed to break away from the Rams tatics of muscling us off the ball, at times unfairly I must say. Like June said I am glad we dont have to watch that sort of play week in, week out! But to be fair on Ramsgate they certainly looked to be more up for the game than we did, though Dannys disallowed goal just after the break may have changed things entirely. How he could have been ruled offside when he actually took the ball round a defender beggars belief!

Ramsgate fully deserved to win by 2 goals...

Ollie Schulz and Edd vahid are both quality players. There team looked much better organised and motivated. You would think with Margate being far the more succesful Thanet team for years and years that they would be able to attract the better players..But it didnt look that way last nite.

Playing against well organised succesful team like Boreham wood and Ramsgate the players need to lift their game and show some passion.

Whether they can i'm not sure.

I think the Gate are taking some positive steps though in reforming reserve and youth sides. I hope for everyones sake the policy of ignoring local talent will be well and truly reversed.

That would be the best thing to come out of the defeat and the way ramsgate have progressed to the extent that they are now in the same league as Thanets top club.

Of what I saw (albeit only 15 minutes) and going on what has been said by others, it seems Ramsgate fully deserved to win. So fair play to them, we can't make excuses every time we lose. BUT, I certainly do not believe that they are a better side than us. The better side is the team that, at the end of the season, is higher in the league. Currently, I think the teams are fairly even, with very little between the two.

Of course I wanted to win last night, and I am not going to say "oh it was only the League cup". But, we have bigger fish to fry, so roll on Saturday. Up the Gate!

P.s - loving the note Rob - very well done!

Just thought I would point out that Fleet will be coming to Hartsdown on a high, second in the table and 4-0 winners last night.

I'm disappointed to lose to the Rams but as others have said, not the end of the world overall. Other sides to go out have included Bromley, Hampton and Folkestone so we are not alone!
