I couldn't make tonight, so it's interesting for me as I'll be wondering who I'll see playing at the Reserve's game tomorrow night.

What a mess. That might have been a squad side, but after the first fifteen minutes we were pathetic. Hornchurch didn't do anything special, but just enough to beat us comfortably. In my opinion, there were only a handful of players that did okay, those being Johnson, Reade, West, Jay, Gordon and Corbell. I thought the rest were either annonymous (Lamb, Parker, Holmes and Stuart) or appalling (Batch).

I couldn't believe how bad Batch was. If it wasn't his passes coming up short, it was his tackles having no effect. If it wasn't his tackles, it was his collapsing for no apparant reason. The one time he actually managed to make a tackle, he was so busy nattering afterwards that he didn't realise the ball was still in play and Hornchurch almost created another chance.

I was shocked when John didn't take him off at half time and stunned when he didn't take him off at all. I don't recall seeing him play that badly before, but I bloody hope he doesn't again. The lad looked terrible out there and not just his performance. He looked over-weight and absolutely shattered from the word go.

I don't like slating players for the hell of it, but that is indeed warranted.

I think if Batch hadn't have played we may have been able to snatch a draw. I feel that he pulled the entire team down to his level as well before the end of the game, no-one could string more than one pass together or make a tackle. By ninety minutes our players copied Batch to a tee and started running into each other, refusing to call for the ball and didn't bother making any decisions.

I'm so disappointed. I'm struggling to convince myself that that performance wasn't worse than the Tilbury one, but it was.

That was my first League Cup match and to be honest, last season I wouldn't have even considered going to a league cup match in Hornchurch, but after the events of the last six months, I feel closer to this club and more involved than I ever have before. I'm glad I went, just gutted with the result.

Saying that, I was really impressed with Matty Reade and Glen Johnson. Thought they worked very hard, with Matt creating ample space for himself and some very nice control and Glen pulling off some top notch saves. Glen is definately a possibility for our number one based on that showing.

End of rant.

A great way to demoralise players who haven't played much football this season, well done <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

I think you need to take the game with a bit of perspective. It had been indicated well before the game that this competition was not our highest priority, and our side reflected that. It good to see a few of the lads get a full 90 minutes under they're belt, they certainly won't play many better teams in our league.

At the end of the day, as soon as people saw the team sheet the defeat was always likely. I didn't think we were that bad at all, just Hornchurch were a much better side on the night. It certainly won't be a 4-0 in the league that's for sure.

Glen Johnson played very well in goal and made some top saves, but Ricky was very good against Sudbury so the battle for the number 1 shirt will go on.

I think last night showed that last nights team were not good enough, but if you take individuals and put them in the first team along with the more experienced players, they will be able to raise their game accordingly.
