Boreham Wood game

We weren’t good enough, especially at the back. Our opponents were fast and mobile; made our defence look like statues. One or two fans have noticed how we have been getting away with it in recent matches; no real surprise to see us get our come-uppance today.

We started well enough with a lot of possession and fluent passing, but even before we conceded the back line got turned a couple of times.

Trotty brought himself and Robinson on for Donovan and Abbott at half time, and to start with we looked like we meant business. Jackson won a penalty, well taken by Hockton, and suddenly we looked good.

It wasn’t to last though. A bad mistake by Trott let them in for a third, and from then on there was only going to be one result.

Defence: poor, static, arguing amongst themselves; everything you don’t want to see. Oates and Skinner stayed wide and we relied on Protheroe and McKimm to drop back in the centre. The scoreline tells you how well that worked. Trott – 4 mistakes, 4 goals. Donovan and Wild too slow.

Keeper not to blame for any of the goals.

Midfield we were outnumbered most of the time. Protheroe passed well. McKimm I have yet to see why he is so highly rated. He seems just to want to offload the ball as quick as possible, and hardly ever won a defensive tackle. Jackson did some good work, and was supplied well by Skinner.

Abbott, well if he had a touch that didn’t go straight to the opposition or out of play, I didn’t notice it. Robinson worked hard, but where was he meant to be playing? It’s no good coming on to play right wing and then following the ball to the left touchline all the time. How is Protheroe meant to find him when he is miles out of position?

Pinnock worked hard but didn’t achieve much. The ref had it in for Hockton from the start, and it was a sure bet he would get booked. I don’t like the way Hockton reacts when a pass fails to reach him. The negative body language is a tonic to the opposition and will do nothing for our team spirit.

The ref was a real ‘homer’, however how he didn’t award a penalty for Wild’s blatant handball in the first half I don’t know. Bad but not 6-1 bad, if you know what I mean.

Man of the match was probably Wood’s hat-trick hero, but on our side I thought Skinner did very little wrong.

Another thing I don’t like, and it’s just personal, is our own supporters barracking individual players.

A very nice ground and pitch, and nice people, but how awful it is to hear ‘top of the league you’re having a laugh’ and ‘you’re not very good’ etc., being sung at your team.

Anything good to come out of it? Well I think we badly needed a reality check, and we got it today. Hopefully the boys have enough strength of character to come though this and go on to better things.

Thanks Chris,

Think the report epitomises everything we had noticed as not being quite right.

No matter what, to concede 6 is very very poor.

If you are losing and obvously losing, you hold it to a 3 or 4 goal defeat.Sounds like we gave up.

Those extra goals conceded could count against play -off places on goal difference.

A small positive is i guess that it sounds as though no-one got sent off.

We still have two points per game which is play off form.

A defeat had to occur sometime and whilst league is vital, we need to progress in FA Cup to keep the money flowing, so in a way, better lose today than next saturday.Hope it has not given too much heart to fleet town however, who of course beat Dover just two weeks ago ,so no mean side

im sure this will do us good in the long run.we all knew tht a couple of quick strikers would run rings round our very slow defence and we need someone with a bit of pace.hopefully this is just a one off.i now think we must play a full team at ramsgate on tuesday to get us back in the groove again berore the important fa cup game.

Can see your point Steve - a chance to quickly put this bad result to bed but Ramsgate will treat it as their cup final and will take no prisoners. We want to come out of the match unscathed in terms of injuries - just worried that they might "take out" one of our star performers i.e. Hockton or Pinnock which will be the last thing we need right now.

I doubt that Trotty would have put the entire first team out at deadwood anyway, even before this result today. It wouldnt make sense to.

I would have thought Charlie would get a run out in goal, just to give Scott a breather. Maybe he dosent want one!

Robinson,Wisker,Williams,Smith,Sesay & Yiga too could maybe get some valuable time on the pitch.

The players have had a busy time lately & it would be the perfect opportnuity to let them have a well earned rest.

Would like to win on Tuesday, of course I would but I'd rather win the league games against them more.

However if it was the F.A.Cup rather than the Westview Cup on Tuesday then that would be a different matter entirely.

maybe Trotty should play a full strength back 4 so he can iron out the problem or try to see whats going on against a Ramsgate . Biting my lip here but it could be himself who is opening up gaps at the back , Chris above saying himself Trott 4 mistakes , leading to 4 of the goals , but whatever the prob needs sorting now leaked twice as many goals as any other club around us.

Before today Trotty has been magnificent in defence & in attack & on many occasions it has been he himself that has kept the defence together.Despite todays report I think we should not forget that.

You make a good point though about playing a similar defence on Tuesday. Ramsgate will certainly test them with their all out attacking policy thats for sure.

I am sure i will make myself unpopular, but frankly, to concede 6 is a disgrace at any level of football.

That was no wake up call/off day/slow defence/bad luck.

Heads must have dropped (and been allowed to drop) to let in six which is worrying.

You can have bad luck, an off day,bad decisions but even if you are only a half decent side, you do not let in 6 goals-never ever. If you are losing 4-1,you don't let the opposition have another couple of goals.

Last week , i thought we were very professional in everything we did,and gave everyone the 'perfect ten'.

No, i was not there today, but do not need to be to know that letting in 6 goals is truly awful at any level above schoolboy.

You defence can be pedestrian, but you still do not let in 6 goals.

Defeats happen ,and some bad defeats will occur, but 6 goals conceded is imo somewhat more serious and wider ranging.

I hope i am wrong.

I think Trotty today just lacked match practice. We all know he is a rock at the back when playing well.

As for what team to play on Tuesday, I agree the big guns should be rested. It will be a chance to see how well the second string gel together. The last thing we want is someone to get injured in the meaningless 'railway cup' when we could make good money from a decent FA Cup run.

Out-passed, out-paced, and out-played.

If we needed a wake up call I am glad it came early. We started off quite promisingly, but the disalowed goal on 5 minutes should have alerted us to the forward threat. Passing was casual, and we gave the ball away cheap. Heard Proths saying it was sloppy. I am not saying that the lads did not try, but nothing was going for us, certainly not any decisions. Danny was getting a lot of hassle from the oppo, who obviously knew they had to shut him down..

I do not know why Trotty brought himself on at half time, because it did not help us at all, and JD had actually played rather well (and has better pace than he).

The team did not give up, but they had no answer to the blistering pace of the wide players, and the forwards. We had our chances, but they have a great goalie. Danny took his penalty very well. At that point the situation was recoverable, but we went sort of kami-kaze instead of regrouping and building a response. Just lost it I guess.

The thing that really disgusted me was the bloke in the black t-shirt abusing Danny from the stands. Short memory does not even come into it, and Danny heard it too. Absolutely unforgivable. I do hope I do not have the pleasure of seeing that character again. Plonker.

This may shock a few people, but to be honest i am not that down hearted about it. Remember We were brilliant against Chelmsford and we won. Going back to the michaelmichael post i did not think it was a bad day at the office, it was a dreadful day at the office. A well taken penalty by Hockton and Jackson and Skinner were our best players on the pitch today. That is all i am saying on todays game.
