Calder - the verdict

there is a lot of comments floating around re GC.

lets make this an proper debate.

Whats the general feeling about Calder and his ability?

now lets all try and justify any offensive comments!

my opinion is this:

he's had his day. At the start of the season we had nearly a new team of new players. Of these players only the Grahams, ollie and kerrigan are still here. Fewings and McDonald recalled after not being automatic choices.

Surely this is a sign of a manager with bad judgement or a manager who gets quality players in and then playes them out of position (carths and Willow both at full back!) and crap tactics (going to 3 at the back when 4 was working well).

He was good enough to get us out of the 1st division but he is clearly out of ideas and the players look like they dont know where to be playing sometimes. Ford on sat proved that you dont need expensive players, if you get players that want to play for you then sometimes effort and guts can match and better skill.

Ive seen so many of calders players come in (forrester - 'the best young striker outside of the conference' - not good enough for us then) then go and we havent improved one bit, if anything we are in decline. like last season its a good job we had a good start as we would have been very much in trouble.

I say time up for calder, let borgy go solo until the end of the season then review.

whats your views please?

I remember sometime last season Calder said the talking had to stop and this year would be payback. Well I guess it wasn't true, as ever.

How can Calder say to the press after the Ford game that its not his fault because the players have the skill but not the commitment. Isn't commitment and heart something you look for when you sign a player? And isn't it part of the managers job to motivate them? It's not the players who are an embarrassment at this club.

He should of done the honourable thing and resigned after last season. And no I wouldn't want George Borg as manager either.

At the start of the season I said I would give it time - looking at the games coming up I reckon January will define the season. We have 10 games coming up between now and the end of January including the next rounds of the Bryco and Essex cup (assuming there are no more wash-outs). We do (although I'm not entirely confident we will win them) have games in hand to take us up to 5th (and level on points with Purfleet in 4th) - 2 of these games in hand will likely be in January. We can't afford to drop many points in the coming matches - starting with Aylesbury and Boreham Wood at home this week.

fact: everyone said at the start of this season we had the best squad there has ever been at new lodge

fact: 4 months later the squad has been mimimalised to such an extent we cant even name 5 subs sometimes. why?

fact: as simon s stats proved gary calder has achieved absolutely f**k all in his time as manager.

if we really havent got a pot to piss in then the chairman should come out and say so then at least some of the reasons for losing our higher paid players are understandable. what is gonna happen to the 10 grand we got for roy?

as ive said b4 i think now is the time to let someone else have a go at managing the club.

cmon the blues

Why don't you grow up and stop trying to stir the s--t, you know if you have any brain that Rod Moore was responsible for the sale of the two players going to Gray's or are you just stiring the crap??
