This might sound very simplistic but how about sending letters on a very regular basis, so there's no mistakes regarding whether they received them or not, and there's no way they can go unnoticed. I think a letter with a copy to the press is a great idea - that way there's no mistaking the Trust's intentions, and it reaches a bigger audience.

Have just confirmed with Marcus, he wasn't given Mr Shine's phone number either...

I would suggest sending a recorded delivery letter so that there's proof they received it. Or perhaps send it in a pink envelope or something so they assume its a nice love letter until they open it MWAH HA HA HA!

Matt and Gary, I think you are right in that if a letter was sent, a half hour meeting would probably be arranged. Stokes would hand out tea and biscuits, explain how hard he had tried, and explain that nothing could be done. He wouldn't have the slightest intention of taking it seriously.

If he was taking the issue seriously, he would have agreed to a meeting long before now. If he was taking the issue seriously he wouldn't have ignored all the red cards. If he was taking the issue seriously he wouldn't be trying to contact the club via unknown passers by in the High Street.

The motion would have meant a real meeting, with a report back to all councillors, so the trust would have to have been treated seriously.

Looking from afar surely the best course of action is not only prepare to stand in the local elections but also to keep the pressure on the council by becoming the conciliatory voice in this debate. In other words through the press state that you are willing to meet them half way with the demands they are placing. You need to push these guys in to a corner which stops them being able to avoid the debate, this is what they are doing by responding with further demands each time they receive a letter. In the end they will have to be forced to confront the issue. You need to be clear what the advantages to the town (and people who do not follow the club) would be by having a successful club based in the town. Use a popular issue at the moment such as the rise in youth crime and how a successful local club can help promote the involvement of the youth and lower crime.

I fear being so aggressive will fall into these devious politicians hands.

I think the council have really backed themselves into a corner not even wanting to meet.

They look like the muppets they really are - surely any decent politician, would say yes lets meet - then ignore any outcomes.

The election campaign should be really targetted on the Mayors seat, be good to put a couple of leaflets out and do some canvessing if possible. All politicians understand is election results.
