Hornchurch 0 Wivenhoe Town 0

Urchins

Recommended Posts

It was touch and go whether this game would go ahead but after much forking and sweeping of surface water the referee finally gave the go ahead. Despite the 0-0 scoreline the crowd of over 500 hundred were treated to a game of many chances, the vast majority falling for Hornchurch, but unfortunately not many were on target (in fact of 19 shots on goal, 3 were on target).

Probably the closest we came to scoring came early on in the first half when Steve Jones got clear but was foiled by a top drawer save from visiting keeper Matt Greenley. After that though, Greenley was largely unworried and spent a lot of time watching shots go wide and over from every position. Urchins dominated the whole game but towards the end as we pushed men forward Wivenhoe mounted a couple of dangerous looking counter-attacks.

A disappointing result but to give Wivenhoe credit they defended extremely well and with a lot of discipline.

Line-up:- Wood, Carter, Bates (Cripps 85), Gooding, Jopson, Marsden, Locke, Cowley, Jones, Martin, Fox (Stowe 76). Subs not used:- McDonald, Wray (GK)

As always Robbie me ol' son, entirely accurate and objective but not quite the full 'partisan' story....we murdered 'em...fact that we didn't score was hardly down to their defending, more to do wth us struggling on a waterlogged pitch, poot finishing and not really being able to capitalise on our own posession. No complaints at all. We either score and win or we don't and get the one point...Full marks to Wivenohoe...but in truth...we should have done 'em in...

Perhaps more importantly...we had set up a big family day today and the elements unfortunately conspired against us...nonetheless....it didn't stop us from having a great day out and the crowd of 542...albeit below our expectations...were heros one and all for turning out (in the pouring rain and wind) to support both the team and the Mayors Charity...thanks to each and everyone of them....your great....!!!

On to the other results...well...a mixed bag really and you couldn't make it all up....the camels got done in big style.....yes...yes..yes... we can live with the trees winning three points, given our games in hand....yeading got done in....he he...hemel got done in...ha ha ha...and then comes the great escape....well...what do you all think about this one then.....(no comments required from 'arlowmen...because we know what they will be)....Hertford 2...'arlow 0...he he...oh...wait a sec..the floodlights have failed .........'ain't they mate'.....yes...okay....forgive our sceptism....82 minutes gone...the rules say that the league shall pontificate.....right...lets see what the league makes of all this then......and lets see what the leagues really made of period.....most convenient is the best that we could say about all of that............hey...anyway...thanks to all you guys for the support.....keep the faith....we're off and running whatever the others do......

Sorry to crash your board but I was just wondering what some of Slough's promotion rivals think about the technical troubles at Harlow today.

Mighty convenient don't you think that Harlow's floodlight fail when they're losing 2-0 with 9 minutes remaining against the divisions bottom club, Hertford.

Well....if you read my earlier post..you will see my personal...and our collective... amusement over the whole issue....which of course we don't yet have to much info on....as I understand it...the rules dictate that after so many minutes of play ...a result will stand....don't know to much about it...rules that is.... in these circumstances...however...good council is required here....in turbulent times...(see conference proposals)we shall see how strong our governing bodies are...if the circumstances are as they appear to be...no doubt that hertford should get the points....Harlow will say different won't they....they'll stand alone of course....we'll see....good result today fat boy....well done...

great day, pity about the lack of goals (and the three points) and also the weather, but non the less it was a good effort in diabolical circumstances, and I think the club made a few new friends today. It was a bit quiet in the old riverside, even thoght the band were lively, guess they needed a goal or two. Anyway, well done urchins and my boys were delighted with the autographs on their shirts, good idea all round and well done for the money raised. Good luck saturday.

yes, I agree, good day all round and quite a good game really if, like me, you enjoy your footie seventies style!

We were not going to score all day if the truth be told but I'll say this (and I never knock the team because we are doing great and playing well) but if jonesy and taffy don't start playing for the team a bit more, we will kiss chances and subsequently drop points. It was wrong what they both did in the first half today, one should have dropped off the other instead of the pair of them pushing each other out of the way, its a team game, someone needs to tell them that. Still, a good point under terrlble conditions, I'm surprised the ref played at all. Anyway, well done all of the team and well done the club. New ground for local footie.

Well done on your 542 crowd, don't be too disapointed it wasn't bigger, conditions, quality of opposition etc all play a part and it was double your normal gate.

Re the Harlow game, on one of the many occasions our lights failed at Sungate we were 5-1 down at home to Chertsey with 90 mins on the clock. The result stood on that occasion, on another occasion we were 2-0 down at home to Hitchin when the lights failed midway during the second half, that game was replayed, so I would suggest each incident is treated on it's own merits by the league.
