Player Movements

I think it is good business selling Roy for £10k, lets face it he doesn't have much of a track record at staying long at clubs this season.

My biggest worry is what we do with the money, I cannot see Calder doing anything else but waste it on a player who he cannot motivate or get rid of them after a couple of seasons.

Calder's bought plenty of players in his time here, (before getting rid of many of the better ones). It would be better if he showed more faith in particular players, rather than just going out and getting someone else.

In fairness there have been plenty of instances where we've been unable to hang on to some of the "better players" because at the end of the season they've turned round and said they want more money than we can afford. The likes of Linger, Simmo, Browne were all offered new contracts but elected to go elsewhere for more ££££. Very few players were actually bought (off the top of my head I can think of 1 - KK) most arrive on free transfers.

What makes me wonder is that it seems the past seasons that everytime a decent and good player has arrived, he's getting less better as time goes by.

Joe Baker is a one example, Paul fewings a more recent example, Opara too. All of these started very well, than just faded away. How long would it take before Essandoh stopped scoring too? Maybe it was wise to sell him when he still was scoring for us...

I don't have high hopes for the rest of the season, don't think the management has any big surprises coming up after new year. Essandoh was a big surprise, and a good one, can't see them doing that again!

We'll probably end up 7-8 on the table, as usual!

Sacha went back to france.

DJ Only on loan, would have been v expensive

Joe was here 2 1/2 seasons - hardly not getting a fair crack of the whip is it?

Forrester hardly started well did he? Probably should have been given a longer spell but the arrival of Essandoh pushed him out of the reckoning.

Of the 13 players we used against Aylesbury, 10 played against Harrow in the first game of the season. I don't think anybody would dispute that Adedeji has been a brilliant aquisition for us, whilst Henty was out of the squad at the start of the season but has done well of late and Andy Douglas is still feeling his way in.

For me the issue that has blighted Calder's tenure as manager more than anything has been inconsistency - why does the same XI that did well at Harrow then play so badly against Ford 7 days later? It's a story seen over and over again over the past 3 seasons.

sorry to bring up the jamie wallace debate but it is relevant.

without doubt Jamie is playing his best stuff for us although personally i dont think he is good enough. Cant question his commitment although wanting to fight everyone isnt going to help, but my point is he was utter crap when he first started playing but calder stuck by him, made him sub but bought him on frequently. Did Forrester, fewings, DJ all benefit from the same time span? Fewings in particular has proven league experience and maybe needed half a season to become a potent threat but it seems he wont be getting that chance, calder has given wallace nearly a whole season.

i just dont understand.

I would like to see Fewings given a run in the team as I think he could perform a Battram type role in the side with Douglas playing ahead of him. He is still at the club (as far as I know ) so could still come good - Linger only started playing well after a spell away on loan as I recall so perhaps Fewings could follow in his footsteps.

Wallace has exceded expectation for me - at the start of the season if you'd said that the top scorer at the club on New Years day would be Jamie I think most people would have laughed in your face! Suppose the difference is that it is easier to be patient with a fringe player promoted from the ressies than it is with somebody brought in on a more expensive contract? When he was given a run in the side Jamie grabbed the opportunity with open arms, something Forrester perhaps didn't do.

just like to say i also think calder is not the right man for the job.for me he has done all he can,he cant do no more hes got rid of all are best players!!we now have in my view 3 forwards who aint great wallace gives hes all but aint good enough.douglas aint a bad player but the stabbing hasnt helped him.and fewings is good for one thing holding the ball up.dj's gone back, baker left, roys gone, and we got rid of forrester, witch to this day baffled me! borg made the statment forrester is the best striker in non league football, for gary to get rid of him when he has a couple of bad games.at only 20 years of age we should have kept him.he has now gone to borewood and scored 10 goals in 15 games, and is in the top 10 scores in the league.gary your time is up my friend shut the door on your way out!

I spoke with Scott after the Hayes game, he had been out of favour for a number of weeks and expect to move if he wanted to play. Another player who did not get a run in the team. I think Fewings, Rantala and McDonald fall into the same category. Management by p*ssing players off.
