ryman division 1 north sides standard

Recommended Posts

i would like to know what other people think about the standard of the ryman div 1 north sides.after seeing some games this year i'm under the impression that it's like two leagues in one.the top sides with a bit of money look like good rym 1 sides of the old, while the bottom half are a mix of rym 2-3 of the old.also i noticed a lot of teams in the ESL have signed a lot of young players released from pro clubs that are struggling to find a place in the teams one or two divisions above.10 years ago

a youth team player released from a league club would have gone and play for a rym prem or 1 at least!it's not happening these days and you see a lot of league players dropping into the conference or even rym prem because of the excessive amount of foreigner players in the premiership or championship.another thing that i noticed is that the difference between top ESL sides and the bottom half of the rym 1 is very marginal.it's the case that the ESL is getting better or not?let me know your views chaps.

The bit about ex pro club youngsters is interesting. When I got bombed out of Leyton Orient in the 70's aged 16, I became disillusioned with football at that level and just played for pleasure with my mates. I didn't aspire to play at as high a level as I could. Which I now regret!

This may still be the same today. e.g. I'm sure Taz Lang at Concord could play at a higher level than ESL. Also, what has happened to Joe North since his release from Southend Utd? He seems to have disappeared off the radar!!!

here's my take coach....

i always maintained the belief that the side we had at burnham would be good enough for an assault on the ryman 1 level and be able to hold our own. i felt there were some very poor sides over recent seasons that we were more then capable of beating, and we did when we played FA cup ties etc.

the tough thing is the ESL. it is very hard to negotiate this league especially once you have been around for a while and other teams no your game. (remember you play some teams 6/7 times in a season). look at the likes of leyton, ilford, enfield town who have all escaped the league in recent seasons and been extremely successful.

hornchurch could have, in my opinion, kept the majority of there side together and finished top 6. they were a good side. however i now believe, and have done from day one, that they will win that league. sudbury may challenge.

i think in our league at the moment burnham, brentwood and barkingside would all be mid table sides in the ryman 1. burnham and barkingside have both been unlucky in missing out on promotion the last 2 seasons. i hope they manage it this time around.

a lot of teams in ryman 1 would not be able to win the ESL. the trick is to get to that league. i dont think tilbury last season were as good as barkingside or burnham but they are promoted and i doubt they will come down.

Very true there Small-dogg...

Its all about "getting out this league"... kick, spit, punch, chew, however necessary...

I see where you are coming from Coachie, but its no different to Professional Football...

take the League Cup for example... League 2 Barnet beat Championship Leaders Cardiff 2-0...

These things happen, and its the under-dogs that raise their game to play a team in a higher standard...

I think if anything, its a sentiment to the ESL sides for battling hard against better opposition to win games...
