Hertford Town 4 Langford 2

Recommended Posts

What a game! Langford went ahead twice, Hertford missed a penalty, scored another and spent the most time in the opponents' last third that I've seen in a long time. What nice people the Langford lot were too! Games like this will bring the fans back (and get you to second in the league!) Feeling better about my tenner now, Oners.

Thought my ticker was goin to let me down at one point! Good game of football to watch, Stable Enders in great voice, Langford's kit so colourful under the lights, nice stripes on the pitch etc, etc,

On reflection, although Langford could have got something out of the game, it was actually a quiet night for you?

The report is already on Langford's Website:

Tuesday night and the scene was set at a warm and dry Hertingfordbury Park for an even hotter encounter on the pitch between the Reds in second and the Blues in fourth place just two points behind. Despite the clean sheet win at Royston on Saturday Langford manager Roy Boon chose to introduce veteran goalkeeper Steve Young in place of Dan Eely and also bring back Shayne Willett resting Joe Delasalle to the bench. One late enforced change was caused by a knee injury sustained by Ricardo Small in the pre match warm up that released Gareth Grant from the splinters of the bench.

Hertford were quick out of the blocks to establish an early dominance and none quicker than Ryan Redford who was going to prove influential in the games outcome. Langford did force a couple of early corners and against the run of play took a seventh minute lead. Adam Pitcairn’s pass was dummied by Wesley Byrne to allow Lee Pateman to square the ball to Robert Groves who took one touch before smashing a shot into the top right corner of the net for his fourth of the season. Stung by conceding the opening goal Hertford strove for a quick equalizer with Kevin Cooper and Ryan Redford coming close. It was Redford’s pass that set up Leo Turner for the equalising goal on thirty-one minutes as he fired home from ten yards. The Hertford striker, Redford, continued to terrorise the Reds defence and fired over in the area when in space before bringing out a good save from Steve Young. A timely interception from Dave Drury prevented another Redford attempt on goal after he latched onto Cooper’s flicked pass. The half finished with the home side clearly on top just looking for the break through.

It took only two minutes of the second period for Redford again to cause panic in the Langford area, turning his defender and breezing across the area only to be put to ground as he sped towards goal. He recovered to take the spot kick himself but was denied a goal by the width of a post. Steve Young produced a good double save as he blocked an effort from Redford and then saved a shot from distance as the ball rolled out of the area. Langford held out the Blue tide and forced a corner from which Byrne and Barnes saw their efforts blocked. Andy Pilgrim replaced an ailing Gareth Grant with just over twenty minutes remaining and within a minute Langford had worked a goal out of nothing. Robert Groves forward pass was collected by Lee Pateman after a clever run that left him one on one with the goalkeeper. A cool and confident finish by the young midfielder put the Reds ahead. Eight minutes later and the home side made it all square from the spot after Steve Young had hauled down a home player in the area during another period of pressure. This time Kevin Cooper took the spot kick and made no mistake. Play swung backwards and forward with Lee Pateman being denied a second as his effort from an Adam Pitcairn free kick was blocked. It was that man Ryan Redmond that finally broke the deadlock with a goal his performance on the night had warranted. He poached inside the six yard box after a goal mouth scramble had seen two shots blocked by the Reds defence. The Reds soon brought on Jim Bywater in place of Shayne Willett but pushing forward in search of leveling the game brought about a fourth goal in the final minute. Ryan Redford broke away and interchanged passes with Lee Roberts who scored at close range to complete the night’s entertainment. Langford played their part in an exciting game against a Hertford side who, will be there or thereabouts by the end of the season.

Rhodes WHY do you have to copy and paste articles from other clubs websites???? if I wanted to read the match report I would go to the webiste. You have a go at me for starting new threads on subjects but you are just a bad with your constant cutting and pasting of articles.

It was more fun when you were having cyber sex on the fourm with Paula your imaginary girlfriend
