Ramsgate 2 - 0 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Reading their message board it looks like we bossed the first half; went behind early in the second and then they got "gifted" a second due to a "bad bounce".

From a Margate fan on the Ryman board:-

"Ricay dominated the first half & should have gone in 3 up. Ramsgate then dominated second half & scored a good goal, got lucky with the second as the keeper spilled the ball out if his hands with no pressure on him at all. A game of two halfs without a doubt. Rams second half performance had them thouroughly deserving the points. Ricay seemed not to have turned up for the second half."

Be interesting to hear if we squandered a few chances in the first 45 again.

Wasnt having a go!

Was there as a neutral.Couldnt really get to Walton tonight.Thought the game was going your way up till half time.Thought you would go on to win comfortably in the second..But Wardy must have had a few words with his players. They came out all guns blazing & didnt really let up in the second half.Couldnt see your lot scoring in that second half.Game was played at a terrific pace for 90 minutes non-stop.

Can't really add anything to what's above... Billy and Mel both unavailable, so Jack Wright made his debut in goal - actually did OK apart from a howler for the 2nd. We're suffering from a major lack confidence in front of goal at the moment...

Wright

McSweeney Swaine Heffer Kerrigan

Game Ryan Hunter Dormer

Flack Elder

Subs

Hodges for Kerrigan

Poole for Flack

Collins for McSweeney (finished the game with 3 at the back)

Whats the situation with Morgan? Are we likely to see him again?

Absolutely no excuses from me for last night. The ref did not make us lose, the pitch did not make us lose, our young keeper did not make us lose. Ramsgate scored with their sustained pressure early in the second half. We dominated the first half but did not score. Score goals = win games.

Game should have been as good as over at half-time. Instead we failed to convert numerous chances and Ramsgate are let off the hook. We all know what's coming in the second half and sure enough, they've converted after a 10 minute spell of pressure with virtually thier first shot on target. Game over.

Well at the moment who is going to stop Margate. Last season Braintree won it by being a complete unit in which each player knew exactly their job. Not so much as pretty but effective. Margate (not seen them thus far) appear to be going for the we'll score more goals than anyone put together scenario! It is a tough league, and probably stronger than last season. Yourselves will obviously be strong as will AFC and Bromley too. Throw into the hat Hampton (consistently top 5 team for a few years), Heybridge, ourselves (if we learn to score) and a few others with aspirations to out do the so called bigger guns then you have what i think is the toughest Ryman for quite a while. The good thing about non-league though is that a number of teams can have a very indifferent start, but can make up ground reasonably well. Hopefully that will be us too

I think the feeling I had last night was "gutted". Half time, I walked away certain on the performance that the team displayed in the first half that the game was ours, all we had to be is patient...

Then a totally different "set of players" took the field for the second half...

Well done to Ramsgate. Hospitality was good, we were made to feel welcome. Nice pool table. I lost all my games (well, I'm not including the one Simon went in off the black as I had only potted two balls before that).

We will reciprocate when we entertain you at our gaff.

Gazza. having only seen 1 game of yours what do you think the problem is?? From what ive read maybe you need to just go out and have a right go at a team. Your defence is solid but 5 goals in 6 games is pretty poor.

I know Elder had a knock before our game but to have him, Hodges and Collins on the bench must send out a signal that defence comes before attack.

Thing is Sean, our midfield without the two you mention, Dormer, Hunter, Ryan, Game, are all capable of, and are proven goal scorers, Dormer and Hunter are double figures per season players.

So it’s not a question of right or wrong, truth is, collectively, we aint scoring at the moment. Our squad has quality in depth, which is shown by our bench at any given game, and it will get a whole lot stronger over the next week or two.

Goals is what we need, everyone knows that, but if we look at some of the saves and goal line clearances that have been made against us, we have to a certain degree, been unlucky not to have a few more in our goals for column.

Yesterday was a disappointing night, but bank holiday Monday was a good performance, scored two against a very good side, and had enough chances to win that game. So we have the talent, we create the opportunities, with a little luck and a positive vibe will go on and score our fair share.

sean, our players are just having a slow start...it's frustrating for both supporters and club because we have a bigger pool of quality players to draw on than last season with maybe the exception of up front. But scoring goals (as is with defending) is not just the right of the two players up front...We have midfield players that can as well (to repeat what TC has just said).

It appears that the teams in this league are all cutting their throats at the mo, if you see the results and it'll be the strongest at the end of the season that will win promotion.

It was said to me last night (whilst I bathed in the pool of depression and self pity) "one game lost does not make a whole season".

There are 8 months to go before we can consider ourselves a success or a faliure

Agreed Gazza. My impression of Billericay when we played you was that you had improved over last season.

Eventually the table will/should reflect the stronger teams and I expect both of our clubs to be at the right end of the table.ps this is not BBB

Afternoon all,

Long time no see, reading this quote from Keith I'm glad we got out of the Ryman Prem when we did. Looks a very competitive league this year (like last season of course!).

Played Margate in a pre season friendly, although a friendly they wiped the floor with us. I knew I should have had the 16/20-1 bet when I had the chance...and my e/w on Tonbridge!

Still we've enjoyed a good start to the season. Not sure whether there's a gulf in class or that we have significantly improved from last year, probably the latter in trusth although Newport County are a tough outfit.

All the best

Last night was a similar story to the Carshalton game in that we had the chances to make the game safe, couldn't take them and paid the penalty. Some of our team were very poor in the second half and I did wonder whether we now have a few who are operating in the "comfort zone" that our club has been good enough to afford them over the last year(s). Let's hope that's not the case.

We have dropped a lot of points against "unfancied" sides already and have some tough fixtures coming up, but it is still only early in the season. I think most of us feel that there's not much wrong and hopefully we can get back on track on Saturday.
