Ben Griffiths

St Albans' very own Ben Griffiths, singer-songwriter, influences include Damien Rice, Counting Crows and Rufus Wainwright. (Sorry Ben - best pic I could find!)

Olivia Flenley

Jeff Buckley/Tori Amos-influenced singer-songwriter, who describes her sound as "warming north-westerly winds bearing a hint of blues twirling through fairy-dwelling tree tops"

Paul Jones

Another St Albans-based singer-songwriter, Paul lists his influences as the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and Leonard Cohen. (Hmm, it's quite difficult to do a write-up about one's self!)

Evening kicks off at 7.30pm, when host Paul Watson will play a few numbers.

First featured artist will be on at 8.30pm.

Late licence!! (Always good news!!)

......."warming north-westerly winds bearing a hint of blues twirling through fairy-dwelling tree-tops".

WHAT!!??

Apart from the lady herself, does any ather artist manage to sing "blues" that twirls through fairy-dwelling tree-tops?

"Fairy-dwelling". For the love of Jesus. Bring back Helski and taking the positives [from the] second half.

If she's a nice girl and appears to be able to hold a tune, suggest that she gets a new publicist, mate.

"...fairy-dwelling tree-tops.." Phew. Did she audition for a part in Mary Poppins? The Little House on the Prairie?

How did your set go, Zealster?

Reasonably, AFF, cheers! Will be my last one for a little while, with Mrs Z going into hospital in a few days.

It was billed as a "Showcase Night" - not really sure too much how it differed from a bog-standard music night in the Boot, but it was good to see some friendly faces down there.

Played eight songs in a half hour set. The intention was to play nine! Left simple instructions with Master Lewis II to get an encore shout going at the end of my set, so I could triumphantly return to the stage for another choon, but when I looked over, he was busy chatting up some sort - fair play - so eight it was!

If there were any fairies dwelling in my tree tops, incidentally, I'm sure I'd have scared them off by the middle eight of my first number!!

What, specifically, do you think might have 'overwhelmed' Olivia, EFMTFTV?

Might it have been the apparent absence of the millions of music fans who looked likely to appreciate "warming north-westerly winds bearing a hint of blues twirling through fairy-dwelling tree tops" at the Horn of Plenty, or might it have been your own animal-magnetism [allegedly]?
