BBC Radio Kent:

Gravesend & Northfleet manager Liam Daish says it would take a massive offer for him to part with any of his top players.

Striker Charlie MacDonald has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, scoring six goals, while his former Charlton team-mate - midfielder Mark DeBolla - has netted four times. Both have been watched by league clubs

Great article, nice positive buzz, and the ground capacity at present is over 5000.

Things are looking up.

Credit to all concerned.

The team this year has had a nice balance, committment and desire.

A backhanded compliment must go to York, who somehow managed to stop us from scoring.

Thats not going to happen too many times this season.

Whilst it would seem that every player has his price, it would be a great shame to see either MacDonald or DeBolla go anywhere, the same applies for Long and the majority of the other players signed for this season.

But any club wishing to sign any of the 'Fleet's squad only have to wait until the end of the season, then they can get them for free. As I understand it, perhaps with just one or two exceptions, the majority of the squad have only been given one year contracts at the end of which they can go wherever they want!

Perhaps the club should 'bite the bullet' now and seek to get contracts extended for at least a further year or in some cases for a further two years. That way the club will have a settled squad of players with the manager to work with, there would not be the scramble during pre-season to see just who is going to re-sign and who isn't and lastly should a bigger club come in with a transfer offer, the fact that a player is on a longer term contact will almost certainly ensure the club receives a higher, or perhaps a more realistic, fee.

I was talking more about the link that Mike posted that was quite a long article, by our standards, but didn't mention Macca or "Bollers".

I was just wodering why all of a sudden the BEEB we're taking an interest. Probably got bored of not being able to slag off the new England coach. Two wins from two games and nine goals to boot doesn't make it easy for the media to get on the managers back.

This policy would have to be tempered, though, with consideration of the risk that some players signed to two-year deals or more could drift out of the first team, and hence prove to not be worth their longer-term contract. Given the Club's relatively tight budget, it's a difficult balancing act.

It wasn't a pop at anyone, I just thought it was inevitably going to get mentioned anyway so I might aswell be the one to do so.

I actually assumed it was in the BBC article, but I don't think it is, it's just in the top post in this thread.

And if we get someone better or if a players face no longer fits we only have to pay him one years salary to go.

I wonder how much the summer clearout would have cost if last years players had had rolling contracts? There certainly wouldn't have been any money left for replacements.
