Town Hall meeting wed 6th sept

An abstention vote is a cop-out in other words its the same as a no vote.

Also I've known Bob Plimmer for over ten years he's an ardent Watford supporter following them home and away.

And at the last Council meeting he told me the only way he would give Slough his support was if they merged with Windsor so when I pointed out to him how would he like to see Watford merge with Luton Town he hit the roof with rage, and he calls himself a football fan he's just a yes man for Stokes and his cronies.

im gutted, so near, but yet so far. cant believe that it came to the mayors vote and that it didnt go our way, it looked so promising til the last bit!

i guess we just have to keep up the pressure and make sure they keep bringing forward this motion until it is passed, we only need to convince one person to get it passed!

Araas - the council is only one of the hurdles that need to be overcome!

Firstly a plot of land is required that the council can actually give planning permision on - how many sites are there in Slough? maybe a few in Colnbrook, but the value of these are increasing due to the near completion of terminal 5.

Secondly there will be planning objections due to the size of the "complex" - ground and supporting activities - remember Martyn Deaners vison.

Thirdly is the money! - will Martyn Deaner still be intrested, especially if planning permission only grants a football ground?

I would love to see Slough Town FC back in its home town, however the longer we are homless the less chance of a return (whoever is in power), so I think we would be wiser looking for a permenant ground share with someone like Beaconsfeild SYCOB.

Having a true ground share where both teams were equal partners has a host of advantages i.e. shared overheads, greater utilisation of the support facilities (bar etc - more income for the site)

I know this is not everyones cup of tea but how long are we going to wait for the council to even recognise our position, yet alone start working with us - if ever!

clive will you please stop having a go at Dan...he helped the trust very very hard during the election campaign ..so you want merger..funny stokes wants that too... over my dead body !!!

The sub committee of the trust have been working hard to find out what grants and help is out there and tthere are avenues we have not even touched yet...we as the trust if Deaner is not involved will be looking for a community stadium with lots of community based activities and places local people can use even if they hate football...

the club have to other venture to get and develope some land and have private offices or hotel etc etc and some of the money will be used to subsidies the club...

The majority of slough fans would rather if things went wrong would to start from scatch but still be slough town fc...not a merger....

OK chris what empty land is large enough in slough for a football ground?, will be able to gain planning permision? and will it be within the clubs finacial range?

To help with this St Regis papermill in Maidenhead has sold 45 acres for £30.25 million - so that puts local land at over £600,000 per acre and we would need 4 -6 acres, so just for the land it will cost the club between £2.4 - £3.6 million plus the cost of building the ground.

A lot of the funding out there requires match funding, and does any one have £1.2 - £1.8 million?

I am trying not to be negative but realistic and making it clear how large a mountain it is we have to climb.

apologies first for quoting merger...

but what do you suggest we do apart from ground sharing for ever....we have to try to do dsomething..a green belt site with limited faclities may be the answer..again...but have no furture to move up the pryamid...or keep trying...

new schemes for housing these days have by govenment legislation to have some sports lesuire faclities for conibations of over certain numbers of people in a said area and building contractors have to leave areas so these faclities can be built...IE Cippenham area ....a peice of land has had to be set aside for these types of faclities..maybe we can work into some kind of these areas...

It is a large mountain to climb, but Chelmsford (yeah I know its an athletics stadium) Dartford and Harlow - with the full support of their respective councils - have managed it recently so anything is possible. I think we just have to keep chipping away.

Maybe the next leaflet could be something like - how would you feel if Chelsea decided to merge with Fulham; Watford with Luton; Spurs with Arsenal...

Steve, it may just be that your chat with Plimmer made the difference between his voting against and his abstaining. Perhaps we all should be seeing our local councillors, talking to them, explaining the issues to them, and making it clear that their response will affect your vote. I'm far from sure that many of us (including myself) can say that we have spoken to all 3 of our ward councillors on the issue. One more convert, or one more abstention, and we win an important battle.
