In Defence of Dean Standen

I am Spartacus

Recommended Posts

I am going to make myself unpopular and defend Dean Standen. Since he has come to this club he has had to prove himself in every game that he has played because fans would have a go at him for the slightest excuse.

Now Dean has come on leaps and bounds over the last year and MERITS and DESERVES his place at MFC. However, he still has the need to demonstrate to the supporters that he should be an MFC player. This unfortunatley leads him into having to stand up for himself and do rash, insane things whilst have a temporary blackout.

If he did not have (and he does not in my case) to prove himself every game then he would not have done what he did this afternoon.

Dean I hope that when you finish your ban you come back knowing that you do not have to prove yourself the way you did today.

In the meantime whilst serving your suspension (which I think will be for 3 matches starting with the Norbiton game) I would be proud for you to watch from the sidelines with me and the genuine fans of MFC.

what a load of rubbish!!

proving yourself to the management or the supporters doesn't constitute trying to headbutt someone.

if it's ok to be provoked we better hope we don't get bigger crowds, as we might accidently bump into each other and start a riot.

also joseba what makes you a genuine fan more than anyone else?

theres always a few of you on this forum that big yourselves up to be the best fans.

I have never stated that I am more a genuine fan than anyone else.
The genuine fan is the one who supports there team through thick and thin.

And no I am nowhere near being amoung the best fans of this club for they are to me the ones who give there time and money for the benefit of the club without asking for anything in return.

I supported the club since 1963 and stuck with them in the Thanet Utd days what does that classify me as????

On second thought don't answer that as they are bound to be rude.

We have a group of supporters like any other team. Some can make it to games others cannot. As long as you want the club to do well and help as best you can (be it attend, help at games or help run the club)you are all important members of a "family" unit.

We have one common aim. That Margate Football Club plays at the highest possible level and that we are all treated equally.

I.M.O as you all know he wasnt a great player last season & I let it be known many times. I repeat i.m.o.I always say what I see & will not be swayed by player personalities or by others opinions of me. This season Dean has stuck with us despite mine & others put downs off him from last season.Right or wrong they were my opinions last season. In my eyes I was right otherwise why give an opinion. This year he has been treated very fairly by Trotty & has had belief put into him again by Trotty. Trotty believed in him so I felt obliged to give the guy a break too. I feel he has come out & worked his socks off(for the time he HAS been on the field this season. I have praised him for that this year.Even today immdiately before his sending off I was giving him mighty praise for getting stuck in. He's doing it for me NOW but there is no excuse for losing it like he did. He must learn to control that side of his play but I wont condemn him too much for today because of the time of the incident.. Good job it was at the time of the game that it was & the score was 3-0 otherwise others might be screaming louder now.The fact remains though that imediately he did come on he carried on from where Proths left off & that should be a good pointer for the rest of the season.Cool it Dean & you will be my top man in no time. As the above post says let it go today as it was much much too good a day to have a go a ANYONE,red card or not.

Agree Dean has worked hard in the time he has been on the field and got stuck in but wish that he wouldnt lose it like that on the field. Maybe he feels he needs to prove his committment but believe me that fact that he has stuck around is enough to make me develop respect for him and when he has come in he has done a good job. He's improved no end under Trotty but he was very daft today. Hope he's learned his lesson as we cannot afford sendings off and lucky today the game had already been won.

I agree with Cookie as per start of thread.

He made three brilliant touches, tackles in his first 5 minutes on pitch, and then a moment of madness.

The poor guy will know he let himself and teammates down and is probably distraught.

Hopefully this is the last and final time.

He is a quality player in midfield, wing or left back.

I.e one player for price of three.

The shame is that currently, he is probably our only real option to bring some real quality into those positions if we get injuries.

Sod's law-when he is suspended we will prob have other injuries-so yes it was very mindless behaviour, but lets not hang the guy.

Hopefully he will return post suspension even stronger and play a major part in our promotion push (first time i have dared say the P word but bouyant after yesterday).

It must have been very frustrating for Dean sitting on the bench for last few games, but stupid regardless.

Give the guy a break though, and again, in five minutes yesterday, he contributed with a great tackle and two quality passes-he is quality-lets value that bit aswell

When he came on last Monday it was the 1st time i can remember seeing Dean in his best position. Some of his touches and work rate was great. Last season he played in nearly every position on the park and had to learn the left back spot from scratch. After all the stick he took last season we have been left with a utility player and classy centre midfielder who will get a run sometime in the season and will then prove his true worth.
