Kaiser, Coachie et al, Jeez have you guys missed the point or what???

This isn't some xenophobic rant and I am certainly not racist, as suggested by Coach with his mention of Hitler!! How could I be with two Irish parents???? What's more Coachipoos, I resent the implication. (I have experienced rascism first hand during the IRA pub bombing campaign in the 70s and let me tell you it was [****!!****] ugly)

I was refering to the lack of opportunities for English/British youngsters making their way in the game today. Yes of course the cream will always rise to the top but quite often English clubs buy from abroad because the English/British clubs demand too much for their players of a similar standard.

Who dosen't love watching the likes of Henry, Cantona, Bergkamp, Di Canio etc. But for everyone of those superstars there's 2 or 3 Marco Boogers, remember him? Coachie, are you telling me you don't get pleasure out of seeing a youngster that you once coached make it to pro level?

How often does that happen now compared with say 20 years ago. Yes the quality of the football is better today, but if that was all that was important, would we all be lovers of the non-league game? I suspect not.

My original post was meant to be tongue in cheek but it seems to have been twisted out of all proportion by people who frankly should know better.

If I've offended anyone all I can say with my hand on my heart is...........Grow up!!!

hookey this is the world in 2006!it is a common problem in spain, germany and in italy where we started rolling the ball after the 1982 world cup win.over the years i have seen the argentinians playing in our league winning the 1986 wc,the dutch in 1998 euro champions(rijkard, gullit, van basten) the germans in 1990(matthaus,brehme,voeller,klinsmann,berthold,etc)the brasilians in 1994(taffarell parma saving and fiorentina dunga scoring the winning penalty)france 1998 with zidane and co)and the brasilians in 2002.they all came to italy, took the money, completed their football education and prevented the italians u'21s european champions from getting a place in the first teams of the top italian sides that conquered europe for more than a decade.now i'm on trevor brooking side:the fa doesn't do enough to improve the coaching at the bottom of the piramid and at grass roots level.the english youngsters are not less than the germans, brasilians or italians but there are not good enough coaches to help them at younger age.why is always the most physically stronger lad that gets picked at young age?why that little talented player is not picked?ask yourself why!ask the majority of non-league managers if they will go for a young talent or a more experienced player?i know the answer..in little Italy at the equivalent of conference, ryman, esl it's compulsory to have a certain number of u'18s in the team list and 3-4 of them must be always on the pitch.this force the clubs to go and search for the best young players around.i have seen 40 years old players at the week-end still on the pitch at two ryman league games.what message does it send to the youngsters?in little Italy, unless you have been at that club for a certain number of years you go and play intermediate or vets football at that age.
the fa is a shamble!they have got milion of pounds in the bank and they only look after the big boys.nothing or peanuts for the bottom of the pyramid and grass roots!

So we agree I'm not a xenophobic racist, just an advocate of youth development in this country.

As a parent of a lad who suffered at the hands of myopic youth coaches/managers who put results above development, I have seen the frustration on his face knowing he could run rings around many of his peers technically, but couldn't cope physically, at THAT age and for that was often overlooked for selection.

Your points are well made.

I run a football team and half the problem comes from the parents. The parents put, sometimes unknowingly, pressure on the coaches with comments regarding other players. We need to get away from the "Result" culture we have in Youth football. My team were beaten 15-0 last season in a match and you should of seen the reaction of the 4 coaches from the other team. It was fist pumping stuff. I probably learnt more about my lads that day than they did but their attitude stank and so much so that I reported them to their club. We should be teaching children the enjoyment there is to be had out of the game and not that winning is everything.

Not bad at all... At least we are showing that we want to progress and sort out this early mess...

As long as they perform, and we pick up the results, I will be a happy Yido...
