Hmmnnn. Whoever it is appears to be making a tidy sum selling 'our' memorabilia. Perhaps we should produce the matchday programmes with serial numbers in order to be able to identify this budding entrepreneur.

 

Pak Street? He or she can't spell either. Perhaps they're from a caravan on the roundabout that is the site of the new stadium. Claiming squatters rights or somesuch. That or taking Gibbo's advice to get to games early to avoid congested turnstiles.

If he/she has purchased a programme for £2.50 and then sells it on e-bay for more or less than face value, we can't really complain I suppose.

 

If they are unsold programmes, however, that is a horse of a different colour. Perhaps some unscrupulous, two-faced, two-timing, fork-tongued, so-and-so is nicking 'em from the refuse sacks at t'Park.

 

I wonder whether that chap who gets £50,000 a year for taking the teamsheet from the manager to the referee 1 hour before kick-off might consider extending his job description to include the shredding of unsold programmes after each game.

It never entered my head, mate. If you wanted to sell matchday programmes on e-bay, you wouldn't need to nick 'em from refuse sacks after the game, you could just print a couple more!! [Or perhaps you hadn't thought of that particular wheeze.]

 

Better be on the safe side HM. I assume that there would be no extra charge for individual numbering of each programme in the run? Like a serial number for each one? We could get the punters to sign for each issue, the programme seller then noting who had bought each one. It wouldn't take long to track down the so-and-so on that basis.

 

We ought to think about the possibility of someone faking the things HM. A lot of designer stuff on e-bay is a little dodgy, I've heard. Would you be able to do a hologram of, say, the club crest, on the front outside cover at no extra charge?

So it can be done! With that level of security, there was no black market in those days, clearly. 72/73 eh? Phew. The average gate was probably around 20,000 so the old-timers tell me, and if they could note the name of each purchaser for each programme then, I'm sure that the Matchday Co-ordinator's husband could sort out something similar today.

 

How long did it take to get in the ground in those days, I wonder?

 

And I see that 'Ratty' found the back of the onion-bag that day. These nicknames eh? It doesn't change much when you think about it. We learnt today that it's Josh '"SOZ"' Sozzo. I think that it's in capitals as they shout a lot.
