Plastic Bottles

Been seeing some comments regarding the policy of not allowing plastic bottles in to chelmos ground with a bottle top on. Yet, (if this is the case) apparantly you can buy bottles inside the ground with the tops on. Now, does this imply there is a little merchandising scheme going on? Personally i do not drink soft drinks so this would not affect me but is this needed in a non league Ryman game? Did chelmsford use this law when they were not at MP?

Any offers for a debate or a reason for this, just curious.

I,m a Steward at Southampton & Eastleigh.plastic bottles are allowed with tops into the Ground and are sold at outlets within the Ground with tops on. Tin cans are not allowed if you have any Ground Regulations at your place it is Regulation(6)

hope that helps in this debate

The crazy thing is that we were allowed in with lots of other stuff that would make far better weapons :-) an umbrella a flask etc etc....

But what really got up my pipe was the way we were spoken to (like school kids) and the other thing was that after we gave up the plastic tops we saw lots of people in chelmsford shirts coming through the turnstiles with bottles with lids on. so I think some discrimination took place. We also had a can that we could not and did not want to drink and that got left outside.

It is the same for Chelmsford fans. it is a strange rule but they are rules set out by the council not by us! Complain to the them and next year when we meet in the conference south you wont suffer the same problem

I think I read somewhere that it's the first time they've had the Burger Van in addition to there own facilities, so perhaps that was just a "communication [****!!****]-up". I just question the need for the rule at all. A full bottle flys pretty well, even without a top! The synic in me suspects that when this rule is imposed at concert venues etc.. it's more to do with making money than safety. But I'm not accusing Chelmsford of that.

I am not saying that everyone with a city shirt on was allowed to bring in a bottle with a lid, of course not! how would i know that? But what I am saying is that I saw several people bringing in bottles with lids and some of them were obviously city supporters. I did not see anyone with Billericay shirts being allowed to do the same but that of course does not mean that there were none. We only watched for a few minutes to see just how effective the policy was and in my opinion it was useless! We were standing next to the turnstiles and people were coming in with bottles in there hands. What I do feel is that there are 2 ways of doing this kind of thing, one way is to do it a nice polite way and the other is to do it with a degree of bullying a good start to this is to wear a tabard saying security instead of steward. It does not make for a nice friendly atmosphere!

It had nothing to do with the burger van. I bought my bottle of drink from the club's own facilities (eventually - it seemed complicated for the seller!!) and it was supplied with the top!

Doesn't matter who came up with the rule - its pathetic either way.

I also assume this is for crowd protection as you'd have to be a hammer thrower or a shot putter to manage to hit the pitch from most parts of the ground! Oh that's why that equipment is there!!

Just seemed kind of a funny rule when we, and many other non league clubs have been to places such as Bognor,Bishops Stortford and folk are allowed to drink (in plastic) on the terraces, (and no bother). As a side thought, the balcony where (presumably) officials stand. Are they allowed to take a cup of tea, plates of sandwiches or something stronger onto it? If so, that could be construed as a danger especially if you had a Greek wedding party up there !!

I've never understood all the fuss about bottles, the missile of choice has always been the 2p coin... seem to recall little nige collecting about £1.50 last time we went to Aldersh*t!

Seriously though, I believe a ruling came into effect a couple of seasons ago meaning that "new" stadia have tougher requirements for things like stewarding and so on. Unfortunately this means we will have to put up with the jobsworth mini-hitler types we met at Margate last season...
