Policing

We are told that the club have to pay for the police presence in the ground yesterday because of an alleged message on the Aldershot message board that nobody has seen or knows anything about. Another message on the same message board says it was the Hampshire police that advised their Hertfordshire counterparts to attend based on 'incidents' at previous Shots away matches, again, unsubstantiated.

And interestingly, Bishops Stortford had fourteen police officers in attendance yesterday, from the same police force, for the visit of Borehamwood. And they do not have to pay a penny, apparently.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who can explain the difference between these two fixtures and why we have to pay and Bishop's Stortford don't.

Okay I think. I don't think GHA was happy with what Gibbo had to say mind you, but I'll leave that to those two!!

Basically Gibbo said he was pleased that since speaking to you and Anthony, there'd been no more incidents.

I seem to recall giving him a Christmas hug too, but then again, I don't think anyone escaped those on Saturday night!

Had a good chat with Beckett and his American friends too.

Informed by Reading fans that Aldershot "fans" had turned up in Reading after a game a few weeks ago (along with Southampton "fans) and caused some trouble. The police have been watching them ever since.

The police at the Park confirmed that intelligence suggested that a number of known "fans" would be traveling on Saturday. All confirmed by a Shots fan in the bar who said they have 20-25 "nutters" who in recent weeks have become more noticable. This guy (who was only mid thirties) used to travel home and away when they were a league club and said they were left overs from then.

He had heard the suggestion about the web site and thought it was pretty funny as from what he had heard the message could only have been put there by a 12 year old. Oh well!
