MARGATE 5 FOLKSTONE 1

GEEBEE

I was lucky enough to be there. Stayed dry in the stands! I'm not silly!

An excellent result and sod the defence if we keep scoring like that. A very good team performance. They are really working for each other now, and judging by the warm down, really enjoying themselves. Danny had the match ball under his shirt and nobody was getting it away from him! Keith Piper was beaming. And he deserves it too.

One downside was Lee limping off with a leg injury. Not serious I hope.

But we wont always score goals Dave as much as it would be nice.Sometimes we are going to have to grind out a result to win a game by the one goal & that means not conceding. However that will get sorted I'm sure.If we DO keep scoring goals like this then correct, conceding 1 less everytime wont matter.Would be nice to feel more secure back there though dont you think?

Well what a performance against a poor Folkestone team. We tore them to shreds and everyone of the Gate players did well although a little concerned about the defence though I am sure this is being noted and seen to. Hockton my M.O.M for his finishing but the whole team was fantastic going forward. Scott made a couple of great saves as well. What great security he provides to the defence back there in goal. The last goal was a dream and come to think of it Pinnock's peach of a curler from 30 yards was too. What a treat.

A long long way to go yet and a big one next week! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Of course we are. We've been watching Frankie,But...................................come on now theres always a but,& this situation isnt any different.

We're doing good its true but we CAN be doing better believe it or not & we will HAVE to in the future.

Keep striving for improvement I say,no matter how good it looks thus far.

Complacency loses you games & titles! Improvement should & more than likely will, always give you more than you had before.(to state the obvious)

So Cookie 5-1 aint good enough for you. Jesus christ. We won and that is that and we should be happy about it. What would you prefer to see

a) See the team win, but no the greatest performance

or

B) See the team lose, but we played well.

I know what i would prefer to see. Anyways great game and a great win. Well played gate, there was not one bad player out there today.

Agreed that we should be watching for improvements so that we are at our best against the top teams of the league.

No disrespect to the teams involved but we should be glad once a game is over and victory gain that points in the bag. We dont want to be in a "catch up" situation. That cost Burton the Southern League title two years running (When Boston won then us)

[color:"blue"]To put things in perspective, last season we secured our 10th point on 1st October in our 9th game. It took us until 29th Oct to score 13 goals (in our 13th game).

So it's not surprising there's some optimisic noises on the forum.

We had a good performance today & still won so I guess a bit of each.I am just commenting on the problems we DO have in defence despite those two things today.
Thats the point of my concern. Of course Trotty knows we have problems back there but I am just giving my opinion about it..Tough if you dont like it mate.Im talking about the future games Alex. Great result today no doubt, no matter what the performance. Im talking of getting three points next week & if the defence dosent shore itself up by then there wont be 3 points next week.I havent seen Chelmsford play but by all accounts they are 3 times the team Folkestone are & we cant afford to let a team like Chelmsford get even a quarter of the chances Folkestone had today.
I rejoice in the result today of course I do & I have smiled ever since but we dont stand still we move on. Getting ready for the next game.We won today but now I am thinking of next week & making my comments concerning that game.Maybe I should have waited a few days just for you for you to get over the excitement. But you're young so I suppose I had better give you some time to get over it before I mention it again eh?

I'd settle for a point if I was offered it right now too Alex. But no less!

Legend makes a good point in his post. Maybe their style of play WILL play straight into our hands & it might be just the stlye to see that improvement come about on the day anyway.

If i was RT, i would play things a bit different re: Chelmsford and man mark their play maker-Minton.

Put Abbott on Minton ,keep him out of the game and let the rest of our guys do the rest.

I have no doubt that RT won't do this as he is confident enough to say-let the opposition worry about us.Good point, but it does seem with Chelmsford that everything depends on how Minton does-don't give him an inch

Absolute class. An 8/10 for me.
