Slough Town 1-3 Horsham

Aggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

That has to be one of the most frustrating Slough games i've watched. Today we lost to a side, although well organised and good on the break will finish no higher than mid table in my opinion.

We have BIG problems up front in my opinion. Yes Odhiambo, Harris and Gibson do look decent players, but they are all very similar. I hate to harp on about it, but if we had Ian Hodges up front we would have won today's game as we would have scored in our periods of pressure.

Were crying out for a targetman. The only other thing I would say that it's time to get G further forward up the pitch and back up front. Yes he does a decent job on the wing but he does not hurt the opposition on the half-way line. He needs to be further up the pitch.

Oh and good numbers travelling from the Horsham boys. Nice to see some away fans at Stag Meadow.

It's very frustrating watching Slough Town play at the moment.

I know I keep saying this, but there is definite potential out there for a good team and a decent season - but we're losing games when we feel we could be grabbing points. I definitely agree with Chris that we need a big targetman up front who can hold the ball up for others to run onto. Odhiambo is doing very well IMO, and Gibson had a decent game today.

The main reason it's frustrating is that we can have a lot of the ball, get in good areas, and generally look a threat, but never make anything of it - and that's because there's no main targetman to aim for in the middle, a la Hodges. I know Wallace is out injured but I'm not convinced he can be that type of player.

Whilst not one of the best teams, Horsham looked well-organised and took their goals well. Attendance was 343, about 50 from Horsham.

sorry but i don't think eddie knows what a big target man is-hodge may have scored many goals but even he was not what you would call big.and don't forget we had hodge last year and were a rubbish side still.we always let too many goals in to be a decent side-i know money is tight, but look at john hollins at crawley-he has got the team going well in the conference and they are only getting expenses, not wages at all.so i guess as always its the fact that eddie is not good enough.he has had quite a few years in charge now and all we seem to get is worse.

When I post after the game, I always try and find something positive to mention.

I can not find anything positive about this game, apart from it can't get much worse.

Apart from the odd 5 minutes, all we were doing was blindly smashing the ball out, giving it straight back to Horsham.

As Chris has said, it is going to take some time for the team to play as a team, and not like 11 strangers.

That's my rant over and done with. Now lets all get behind them at Bromley on Saturday.

I thought we missed Wallace big time today. While not a leader of the line, he does win a large percentage of headers from defensive clearances, flicking it on for Ade to use his speed to run on to. Without him, we won little from clearances today. Without Alexis, midfield looks weak, and G has been rather quiet in all matches--we arn't currently seeing him at anything like his best.

The Harrow game and the first half at Margate shows that we've got a not bad side at all, so frustrating today. Horsham did show that we've got lightweight players, too easily knocked off of the ball.

I thought we took our chances and thats all you can do. I also believe we had a lot more than 50 in the crowd, from my viewpoint we had nearer 100 (we take a lot of elderly !)

Hear i go.What is the point smashing the ball forward for players that cant hold the ball up.We have two bloody good wing backs in DELL,WOODY.Why not play 3-5-2.with G upfront.DELL and WOODY are wasted at full-back.They seem to cover our centre-backs all game. Please let them get forward.MATT, please play the easy option. That winning ball you try all game is just not working.Play mason in that role and bench MATT.MASON and G out wide is just not working.Well done wilko today.Broke things up well and played the easy ball[matt take note].My moan is over.Thank god.

Hugely frustrating. We have to be one of the most consistently inconsistent sides in the history of world football. Years pass and nothing changes. Why can we still not adequately defend the wide ball? Why are we scared to put our foot through the ball and have a shot?

G is wasted playing in midfield as he gets drawn back into defensive roles which is not where we want to see him play. To be honest in an ideal world he would never have to go in our half.

I agree with Matt that the side has potential - we have seen that from the game against Harrow and Margate.

would agree with Wayne, was commenting today in the tea bar queue about how the strikers we have appear to be giving 100% most of the time but get too easily pushed off the ball... having said that there was a lot of climbing which went unpunished by the ref which wasn't good.

Also agree that G is wasted on the wing... but who else have we got as a winger? Also agree with the notion that it was a bit hoof and hope today, it really doesn't look like we are playing as a team...but its early days

Disagree with mr anonymous, thought matt glynn looked much better today.

Jarvis again for MOTM for me

Well it seemed to me that throughout pre-season we were planning on playing three centre backs, two wing backs, three across midfield with two up front.

I genuinely believe that Eddie thought we would be lining up:

Drake

Jarvis Daly Leach

Dell Woody

Glynn Alexis Mason

G

Wallace

This was abandoned after the Leyton game possibly because of Daly's injury. I think the plan was to give G freedom to roam and influence the attack with Dell and Woody overlapping.

At the moment I feel that we're carrying Glyn in the midfield. He's only doing bits and pieces and far too often the game is passing him by for me. Either he's not fit, not interested or not up to it. He certainly doesn't appear interested in chasing back most of the time which means we're over run in midfield. Personally, I'd rather see us have Mason in the middle and a right winger, possibly Bartley??, to give us two natural wingers on either side of the pitch.

In addition, considering how tall Leach is, the amount of headers he was being beaten to by a smaller man was concerning. Daly needs to get back into that team as soon as he's fit IMO.

The defence had to play long as the midfield didn't want to come and get the ball short and if we're going to play a long ball, we need someone who can win headers consistently or at least give a good challenge to centre backs. Whilst Wallace does ok at this, it's more hope that he'll win it and Gibson did quite well at challenging today.

Whilst Horsham weren't anything special today, they were clearly the better side and worthy of the win as once again, we didn't create enough, but just how long have we been saying that for?

I want to see G up front and at 2-0 down i feel th 4-3-3 would have been a much better option... We need a big lumping striker though ala Hodgie witht he teo littleuns of g and anni/harris either side for it to work..

Today i thought we were ineffective up front, and let the attackers get too much of the ball..

Jarvo MOM: Again.

Personally i think eddie has done reasnobly considering the mass exodus last season, we just need a striker that can hold it up and that, in turn, will mean our defence comes under less pressure. All 3 strikers today gave 100% but never looked fully confident or a threat.

Again have to disagree. Woody as a wing back? he cant cross!! Not seen enough of Dell to truly comment but doesnt look that pacy, Bench Glynn? You're having a laugh right? He was our best midfielder today (apart from G for g for about 15 mins at start of 2nd half) Mason was ineffectual, Wilko (who i idolise) didnt have a great game. Personally id go 4-3-1-2 no point having wingers til we get a striker who can head the ball.

Drake
Dell Leach Jarvis Woody
Alexis Glynn Mason
G
Harris Annie

A midfield who admittedly aint the toughtest in the tackle, but can all slide balls into space for the 3 quickuns to run onto.

Being a Horsham fan I am obviously exstatic with todays result.

The team has put in extra early season training,

getting themselves fitter than last term.

Having the majority of last seasons squad has helped enormously, playing with the same guys around you helps with team moral.

If as it sounds you have a fairly new squad of players you will need to stick by them & eventually they might gell as a team.

As for the comment about Woodruffe not being able to cross a ball, well I thought in the first half he was the most likely guy to supply your goals.

Time & again he put in fantastic crosses to the far post putting our defence under extreme pressure, perhaps it was the forwards trying to get on the end of them who should take some of the blame for not converting any of them.

Your early pressure could so easily have changed the course of the match, likewise in the second half,if you had scored with several chances you created before we scored our vital second goal, then you might have been looking at a different result today.

Good luck for the rest of the season, you obviously have a passionet bunch of supporters but just need to remain positive!! Like beating Bromley next weekend, you never know that might help us as well!!!

[1]woody aint that bad at crossing.[2]dell is quick,he and woody spend all game helpin out our extra-slow centre backs.so there out of the action for most of the game.a target man would change things around.he could bring players into the game.
